From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, my name is Marley McDonald! I live in Lake Stevens Washington, and I am a full time running start student at Everett Community College. I love to listen to music and spending time with my friends. I like hiking in the mountains, but I’m not a big fan of backpacking due to falling over numerous times. I enjoy talking about conspiracy theories, unsolved mysteries, and ghost stories. Just because I like conspiracy theories doesn’t mean I believe in them, I just like to talk about them! I don’t have any big accomplishments to list, but I have earned a couple of participation awards in my lifetime (trying not to brag but it’s true).

Article Critique

[edit]

I visited the Alice Cogswell page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on, there are missing citations on facts, more information should be added to create a deeper understanding of what it was like to be deaf at the time, and the author did not do the best job putting information in his/her words.

Citations

[edit]

I’ve noticed that multiple statements have no citations to back the information up. It’s hard to believe any information stated without the proof of whether it is an accurate fact or not. Adding more citations will help the variability of the page. I also noticed that there was no citation for the pictures either.

Missing Information

[edit]

The Wikipedia page could have added more information about Alice Cogswell when I took the time to research more about Alice Cogswell there were interesting facts that I thought it should be in the Wikipedia Article. Such as the center in Ohio that was named after her, the center supports deaf children and their education[1]. There was even a bill named after her that I thought would be worth mentioning. The bill is called, the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act, it was established in 2015[2].

Plagiarizing

[edit]

I saw some signs of plagiarizing when I was looking through the cited pages; I found that the author’s words were quite similar to the website they used. It is important for the author to write in his/her words and not use direct words from the article being used.

Summary

[edit]

Altogether, this page is decent. There is a need for more citations to confirm the facts that were stated. There is information that could be added to strengthen this page. The author should use information and put it in his/her words instead of a slightly altered version of the used website.
