Hello Mark. I noticed your NNP work (I almost "clashed" with you during your referencing of EuroNanoForum and I noticed this edit of yours). Please, could you take a look at this message? What do you think about it? Thanks for any opinion. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 10:50, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

What a coincidence - I was just comparing the same articles for their remarkable similarities. I think the references are simply being pasted to each article and the text for all the articles is coming from one source. All the articles read the same style - I think this could be a major copyvio. - What do you think we should do about it? I am going to bring it to the attention of an Administrator who patrols new pages and see what he thinks. MarkDask 11:01, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it is a copyvio. I think it is an attempt of someone closely connected with the Jaff family to push the biographies to Wikipedia. Btw, I'm an admin patrolling new pages, but it doesn't matter, it is always better to get another opinion, therefore I asked you. Let's wait a moment (a day or two) for Shajaf's explanation. After that we can decide what to do (AfD would be the best solution, in case they don't respond). Thanks for your collaboration. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:16, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes you are right - all the articles seem to come from one text - possibly Shajaf's own work. I commented on Sajaf's page also. MarkDask 11:35, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

pls help with my new article. it has been put up for speedy deletionRathorejodhpur (talk) 15:55, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Your article is about you - and you are not a notable person. If I am wrong then add some references to newspaper articles about yourself - or things you are famous for - but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not a place for individuals to advertise themselves. Sorry Rathore but you are not qualified to have a wiki page as far as things stand. You can contest the speedy deletion but honestly I dont think there's much point.MarkDask 16:07, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

The Crier is a local newspaper, and its website is thecrier.net. The article referenced is a newspaper article, written by Jim Perkins, that was originally printed on July 27, 2004. The "send comments to" was asking for feedback for the original printed article. I hope that clears things up.--Mmann1988 (talk) 01:32, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Qeybulla Qeybullayev

Hello Markdask. I am just letting you know that I deleted Qeybulla Qeybullayev, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. Danger (talk) 08:59, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing out the distinction. MarkDask 09:04, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for introducing me to Reflinks,[1] it is a truly wonderful tool. I hope to use it often, but right now I'm having some trouble figuring out how to get it to work in Mozilla Firefox with NoScript enabled. I was only able to use it because after three or four attempts I opened it in IE. Anyway, it's great, thanks! HuskyHuskie (talk) 07:12, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello Markdask. I am just letting you know that I deleted Weheartjapan, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. Salvio Let's talk about it! 15:24, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know that I have challenged your WP:CSD A1 on Joel Nirushan Samuel. In my opinion it is clear what they article is about, and so criteria A1 is no applicable. I have replaced the tag with a BLPPROD. I haven no objection if you want to supplement that with any additional deletion processes. Monty845 16:28, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay Monty I've prodded the article in terms I hope you can agree with. MarkDask 02:06, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
The PROD reasoning seems fine to me. Monty845 02:35, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

You're very welcome. MarkDask 11:40, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Markdask! I added a welcome to the new usere's talk page a few seconds after you did. I was going to revert myself, but I thought that the welcome I used was more specific to the problem. I apologise if that came across as treading on your toes - I was simply trying to clarify things and dial back any possible bite-yness. --Shirt58 (talk) 09:14, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Shirt - that was very considerate of you and I'm glad you did - I can sometimes be a little forgetful about bite-yness when I tag articles. Thank you. MarkDask 09:35, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Dear Markdask, Yeah, I know that my Wikip. page "Show (Internet Series)" was deleted, and I didn't cite any references in it 'cause I don't have any yet. I'm not mad at you, 'kay, maybe a little, but I'm extremely mad at Wikipedia because of it's "Speedy Deletion", 75% of my deleted articles were removed because of that. Do they realize people need to sleep? I got as much as I could done before I want to bed... and when I woke up 9 hours later, MY PAGE HAD BEEN DELETED! I mean, come on.Sock7215 (talk) 00:12, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Sock7215

Hi Sock7215 - I'm really sorry your article was deleted after all your work. I nominated it for deletion only after I searched online for independent references for "Show" and was unable to find any. You can ask the administrator who deleted it, (Acroterion), to undelete it, or to "userfy" it, or he can email you a copy of the article if you have email enabled on wikipedia. I hope this helps. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay web-site is a reliable source?Yogesh Khandke (talk) 13:01, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Must admit, I was a bit surprised about this being tagged when there was a source. Furthermore, because even though I'd never heard of the guy it took me all of 90 seconds to find 90k GHits, slip into edit mode and stuff a newspaper cite in there. It probably would be a good idea just to check before tagging, and if you find something then add it (even if just a single cite, to limit the burden put on other people and/or the closing admin). I don't have a major issue with drive-by tagging - we all do it from time to time - but some people would go ape if they saw this. - Sitush (talk) 13:14, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
A very bad tag on my part - not paying enough attention - apologies Yogesh. MarkDask 15:23, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

BLPPROD for Werner Neumann

[edit]

I saw your WP:BLPPROD tag for Werner Neumann. Just to let you know, the article already had external links, From BLPPROD:

"To place a BLPPROD tag, the process requires that the article contain no sources, whether reliable or not, and in any form (references, external links, etc.)"

So, you shouldn't add the tag if there are external links. Bgwhite (talk) 00:37, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for putting me right on that - I'll know it in the future. MarkDask 07:17, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I removed the A1 speedy tag that you added to Impregnation resin. A1 is for articles with so little context that you can't even tell what they're talking about; this article very clearly states what the topic is and then goes on to define the topic (quite well, for a single sentence, too). A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 16:11, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

I take your point. MarkDask 16:15, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]

I see you've put an A7 Speedy Deletion Tag on my article ScalemodelSketchUp. I understand that it is about web content. But may I point out that SkyscraperPage, a sister forum of SkyscraperCity, supports ScalemodelSketchup having a Wikipedia Article. The website is also very popular. Can you please remove the deletion tag??

If you cannot remove it, although my effort and time will be wasted, I understand your point. Thanks.--Albert7777 (talk) 11:45, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. You really ought to include better references tho. MarkDask 11:53, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: You're Idle

[edit]

Hello Markdask. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of You're Idle, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: the artist's article exists. Thank you. Salvio Let's talk about it! 16:48, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks - my bad. MarkDask 17:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Orange County Register

[edit]

You removed some references in The Orange County Register article and identified them as "blacklisted". I wasn't quite sure what this meant because the links (bare URLs) are clearly there and link fine to the OCR website. What do you mean by blacklisted? Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 13:55, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

I use Reflinks to fix bare references. When reflinks runs in an article it identifies blacklisted titles against a wikipedia blacklist datbase and wont format any links it finds that are included in the database. For reasons I'm not sure of, two links, though working, were described as blacklisted so I deleted them.
If you would like to see for yourself, just undo my deletions and run reflinks again - you will then see what I mean. Thanks for asking. MarkDask 14:15, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I thought it might be something like that. I can't see any reason for these references to be blacklisted (maybe some little quirk in Reflinks), so I am going to revert those edits and then add format them manually later on today. Thanks for the explanation. Regards, 72Dino (talk) 14:31, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Link 8 seems fine but link 9 needs login so I dont think its worth inclusion in any case. MarkDask 15:08, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I caught that too and removed it as a reference because it's an open wiki. 72Dino (talk) 15:16, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

I noticed you undid the duplicate prod - please see Talk:Bore Lee. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:59, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I prodded it initially because it is, to use your word, trash. Then I saw the talk page. Quite honestly I dont have the stomach to go through all the arguments so I reverted it. What the hell - its harmless. Thanks for stopping by. MarkDask 12:21, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Deleting references

[edit]

Hi Markdask, thanks for formatting the references in Greatest Hits (Tupac Shakur album)! Also, I agree that the fact that a website is on the blacklist is a valid reason not to use it as a reference. However, it's not such a good idea to remove the citation while leaving the statement that was taken from that source. It seems better to remove the statement altogether, or flagging it as needing a citation, or leaving the citation while flagging the source as questionable - with the third option, the reader at least gets alerted to the dubious provenance of the information. Regards, HaeB (talk) 19:25, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out HaeB - easy to miss when using reflinks, as I did in this case. MarkDask 21:13, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
[edit]

I just noticed your edits to Paul Philidor where you have added links to the Waterstones shop. I was under the impression that such links are inappropriate as they are publicising one commercial enterprise over all the others. Is there a new policy that I am unaware of whereby we link to such a site? violet/riga [talk] 15:21, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Violet - no there is no change to policy - its simply that I was unaware of that policy until now. It makes sense but such a pity cos Waterstones is such a good source. Ooh well at least I can continue to use it as a source for ISBN's. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. MarkDask 16:38, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Megan Abbott notability

[edit]

I'm pulling the notability warning from the Megan Abbott bio page. She's an Edgar Award nominee and winner. We wouldn't call notability into question on an Oscar Winners' or Grammy Winners' pages. The Edgar is the highest award given in mystery writing. I agree the article needs a ton of citations and work, and I'll try to help on that. But I just wanted to drop you a line before I did this.
