Talkpage advice

[edit]

er MOS:LISTGAP (which I linked for you in my edit summary), please don't use leading bullets in unbulleted sections.

snip

A lot of those talkpage comments require no response. As much as possible, always go armed with a load of references, especially from their approved venues....and keep things as short and sweet as possible to avoid acrimonious entanglements. In verbal conversations, few ever listen anyway, often talking past each other...but in online written discussions, this is even worse. At my job I have found that most people I chat with require me to repeat something twice if communicated verbally, and 4 times if done by email, and I even try to dumb things down for them so they get it. Wikipedia is worse even than that many times.--MONGO (talk) 19:14, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

snip

good hints. Though I still suspect there may be cases of topic selectivity, where some folks just don't want to or are congitively unable to talk about some concerns. That seems just the nature of the world these days Thanks again, the tips might help where it's not a strong block. Cheers Markbassett (talk) 19:27, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

TABS and LAYOUT

[edit]

Wiki - doing quick links and tabs like a GUI. Template guide at WP:TABS. See example at WP:VPR too.

- The leftside quicklinks are from the wiki config,

Main page / Community portal / Journal / etcetera list could be diff on private sites
but mostly they are functionally useful and familiar so want 'recent changes' and 'help'
and toolbox 'what links here', 'upload file', etc too
... maybe add more at bottom ???

- A rightside inclusion can be made with templates, e.g. User:Markbassett/Sandbox/sandbox2/Vital links

- Tabs may be done with links ... these actually go to different articles wiki/Enterprise_strategy, wiki/Strategy, wiki/partners - and a second top tab is Enterprise strategy/Vital links - and a third tab is Partners/Toplinks

--- ---- -----

           Tab1 Tab2 Tab3

Left : left : Intro text Vital links left : Blah blah box / list left : Blah Blah left : left : See links #waybelow and [othersite] or article left :

           TOC area ish
            {{title= First Section}}
            {{Editable table|: ....
            {{editor |John Doe ...

ALSO try (each in double braces ) TabsTop Tab1|TEAM|size=15.4 T Tab2|FAQs |size=15.4 Tab3|Nomore|size=15.4 TabsBottom

NESTED TABS

[edit]

Alternatively one can fake going down a breadcrumb trail of articles or fwd/back links e.g. Top page > Subtopic > Detail

The top tabs can have a second row below them i.e. tab 3 goes to article 3 which has the same row at top and a SECOND row of tabs below it...

linking to articles named as if sub pages, wiki/Partners/Staff, wiki/Partners/Talking points, etc

 {{fps tabs}} does both rows ....
   The Staff supporting is ....
With office hours of 9 to 5 EST

Template tabs - See WP:TABS. For example, at top of wikipage put these lines within double braces,

and result is three tabs with middle tab seeming active
TabsTop
Tab2|tablabel
Tab1|[[middle tab
Tab4|tablabeltoo
TabsBotom

.... be good to have a cookbook entry for variations on this, enable and guide good navigation norms & typical in outside use too ... perhaps a row of tabs example, or two rows; or tabs that are pulldowns ?

EMBEDDED IMAGES

[edit]

A banner can be done with series of images, such as 'Image:ABCD.jpg' in double bracket.

Caution - be sure to record information about the image. (or any upload)

e.g. see the hoohaw at Donald Trump The image here and cropped version [1] from whitehouse.gov reference here -- had different information, neither with anything they were based on and before that from scanned brochure airbrushed and colorized info here. .... that said senate photo ... without WP:V basis for that either. colorized and airbrushed here then coped here

And since there was a longstanding 'how bout this photo!' feeling of wanting the official photo, the editors inputting this one _named_ it 'official' and made such a caategory ... when it wasn't from the trump transition sites was that wrong ? right ? who defines 'official' and how ? who checks / enforces ?

Team Leader John Doe 555-1234 ext 789
Team Admin Jane Doe 555-1234 ext 788
Worker Bee, a very long post to make things lap around a bit. Just to see how it looks.
With gaps included and so forth. May have much more than 2 lines, I guess if one wants to edit for something textual e.g. Tool name/ General Info & Advantages / General Disadvantages / Platforms & Ease of Use / Cost.

Then one would have 5 columns with some sections being paragraphs.
