Richard Ssekyondo - Mayor Entebbe Division "B"

Biography:

Richard Ssekyondo is a celebrated Ugandan popular music singer and Politician. He is the Mayor of the municipal Local Government of Division “B” in Entebbe city located on a peninsula into Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world and a gateway to the Colonial first Capital of Uganda located approximately 40 kilometers by road south-west of the Countries central business district and administrative capital Kampala.

He was elected to the position of Division Chairperson - Mayor on 3^rd February 2021 and was later on sworn in as the mayor of Entebbe Municipal Division “B” for the first term (2021 - 2026).

Background and Education:

He was born in Kibona Village, in present-day Rakai District, on 25 August,1980, to Mr. Mulindwa Moses and Miss Agnes Namata. Ssekyondo a first born in his family is known to have Five siblings including Four Boys and one girl. Ssekyondo attended Nkumba University, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Development studies. Having obtained a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.A.C.E) at Entebbe Secondary School, and a Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) at Merry Land High School Entebbe. He went through St. Bernard's College Kisweera For His (“O”Level) Lower Secondary Education. He also holds a Primary leaving certificate (P.L.E) Rakai Primary School preceded by his enrollment at St. Edward Kasozi Primary School in 1986 for His Lower Primary Education.

Work Experience:

Since 2006, Richard Ssekyondo has worked as the Managing Director and proprietor of Magero Company (U) Limited, a Kampala-based company that deals and specializes in the making and supply of quality poultry and animal feeds.

In 2011, he was elected as L.C.III Directly Elected Councilor to Entebbe Municipal Local Government, on the Democratic Party ticket, representing Kigungu Central & Mayanzi Constituency. While in the Council, he served as a Member and Secretary for Production on the Local Government Executive Committee from 2011 to 2016. In 2016 He was elected as L.C.IV Directly Elected Councilor to Entebbe Municipal Local Government representing Kigungu Ward and he was Appointed as Deputy Mayor and at the same time served as Secretary for Education, Games and sports from 2016 to 2021. In November 2021 He Contested for another term in the Mainstream Local government position and he was elected Mayor of the Division “B” Municipal Local Government III of Entebbe City. A position he holds to-date. Richard Ssekyondo has in the past served as national Youth leader of the Uganda Young Democrats (Democratic Party) in 2002 for Kigungu Ward. He is currently serving as a Mobilizer and doubles as an Executive Committee Member for Central Region in Lake Victoria Regional Local Authority Cooperation (LVRLAC) Uganda Chapter an umbrella body that unites all cities along the shores of Lake Victoria Championing Advocacy for the protection and conservation of the second largest fresh water lake in the world. He is the Chairman of the Democratic Party Division “B” and Vice Chairman Democratic Party Entebbe City Constituency. He is a leader in the Catholic Church known for advocating for Peace and Justice for all in Bugonga Parish Entebbe.

Personal Life:

Richard Ssekyondo is a happily married man to his dear wife and the lord has blessed them with children. He has been a member of the opposition Democratic Party in Uganda since his youthful days and served in several positions as a leader under the parties youth wing Known as the “Uganda Young Democrats” since 2002.

Music:

From a Humble beginning in his primary school days, Richard Ssekyondo started his music career at the age of Nine as a lead singer of traditional folk songs at school festivals and he has risen to fame in the last decade as an accomplished music composer and singer of the Ugandan Country music locally referred to as (Kadongo Kamu). He has featured prominently at different fesitivals and occassions doing live performances and vibe entertainment. This has earned him a place among the country’s leading music artists and his music dominated the Ugandan music scene and received fair play on airwaves during the Covid19 lock down. Richard Ssekyondo became celebrated for songs like "Enguzi kyeneleeta,"which sensitizes against the rampant corruption "Enfa Ya Walugembe" and "Mwegendereze."among Others.
