User:Magog the Ogre/Senkaku Arbitration - BRD instance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a straight-forward set of events.

Background

The rule I had set out for Senkaku Islands dispute was WP:BRD for all editors, all in a (vain) attempt to avoid arbitration. It was WP:BOLD and WP:IAR in one, but it had the assent of the editors involved, and it insured the page remained unprotected.

Lvhis' block
  • Lvhis made an addition [1]
  • John Smith's reverted it [2]
  • Lvhis readded the content with slightly different wording [3]

Lvhis was under the impression that only exact reverts counted toward 3RR/etc. This is plainly wrong, as Lvhis soon recognized [4]. Thus I blocked him.

Tenmei's non-block
  • Lvhis made a bold edit [5] (he even asked me for "permission" [6] to which I assented [7])
  • Tenmei promptly reverted it [8]
  • 3 days later, and with no intermediate edits, Tenmei made another edit [9]

Tenmei didn't commit a BRD violation - the content had never been added before, and was in succession to his last edit regardless. So I didn't block him.

Lvhis, Bobthefish2's response
  • Lvhis came to my page, asking if it was a BRD reversion [10] [11]. I believe Lvhis genuinely doesn't understand BRD (linguistic issues, etc.) so he was genuinely curious (or he may have been egged on by Bobthefish2).
  • Tenmei, who literally doesn't understand any concept other than "my edit is correct" (let alone the definition of edit warring), came onto the page, and defended the content of his edit. It completely deflected the question from BRD [12] [13]. This only served to confuse Lvhis.
  • I indicated it wasn't a BRD violation [14].
  • Bobthefish2 saw an opening, and indicated he thought it was a violation of BRD [15] and made a wildly inaccurate statement. It defies common sense he actually thinks this (for someone involved in the dispute, and having a modicum of competence, he is frankly too intelligent). He continued to wikilawyer and ignore my point until I closed the discussion[16] because it was obvious he had no desire to listen to logic, but to push an agenda. Bob's response further confused and inflamed Lvhis.
Elen of the Roads response
  • EotR, in fact did agree with Bob that Tenmei deserved a block and not Lvhis, but for totally different reasons. Her position was that the BRD sanction was a bad idea and instead it should have been 1RR [17] [18] [19]. She also believed Lvhis was making a good faith contribution, while Tenmei was not. IMHO this is true. In retrospect I should have used 1RR and Lvhis was a better faith contributor. Currently, our two positions are 100% compatible.
  • EotR did say that Lvhis should not have been blocked, and Tenmei should have [20]. She never claimed that Lvhis didn't break BRD, and Tenmei did. The fact that Bobthefish2 has parroted either (or both) these claims endless shows only he has taken the low road to winning this edit war.
