Why I’m here
[edit]I’m a text mode artist and narrative designer, interested in improving the information architecture and formatting of Unicode pages. May also be able to contribute to computing history, computer science, design and typeface history and New Zealand-related topics.
Potential Summer Projects
[edit]- Try to link to more detailed pathways in the encyclopedia about the critical and cultural impact of symbols
- Improvements to consistency, structure and usability/readability/legibility of Unicode block pages
- Discussion of the cultural impact of the Sharp computers and how they ended up in the standard, the conclusion/wrap up of the symbols for legacy computing work (argument around why they consider this a finite work, and believe they have encoded an appropriate majority of relevant legacy symbols that ended up on keyboards and file interchange formats in the 70s and 80s)
- Look for secondary sources in media and academic publishing around Unicode, text mode art, the work of the consortium, how codepoints are used, corporate private use area case studies
- Find any possible documentation of links to 1990s and early 2000s graphic design aesthetics
- Assess whether there is any Y2K aesthetic bullshit on here that is misaggregating history and propose cleanups
