The Dorado Oilfield
[edit]- Santos confirms Dorado's size with appraisal well: https://www.ogj.com/exploration-development/discoveries/article/17278978/santos-confirms-dorados-size-with-appraisal-well
- This describes the location area and sub-basin that the Dorado Oilfield is located, the hydrocarbon discoveries made in the area, and finally the size of Dorado-1 and Dorado-2 wells.
Introduction
[edit]A business arrangement is made between two major companies, Santos Limited Energy and Carnarvon Petroleum, so that they can combine their resources for the purpose of discovering major oil and gas in the Bedout sub-basin of the Roebuck Basin. The natural gas energy company, Santos Ltd., produces the second to largest amount of oil and gas independently with 80% interest in the Dorado project. Carnarvon Petroleum is an oil and gas company where they are soon to discover the largest oilfield known to Western Australia's North West Shelf using their latest data and technology holding 20% interest. The Bedout sub-basin is located offshore of Port Headland, Western Australia.
Content
[edit]Dorado-1 and Dorado-2 are wells (2 km apart) drilled into the Bedout sub-basin located in a shallow-water environment 160 km offshore. Dorado-1 is drilled perpendicular to the dip at an angle while Dorado-2 is drilled down-dip. Both wells are oil-bearing in the upper zone and gas-bearing in the underlying sandstone formations with an oil-water contact depth of 4,003 m. Further research is needed to confirm the hydrocarbons in the region. Wireline pressure and sampling gave Santos and Carnarvon the knowledge that all wells are operating properly and in compliance.
Future Discoveries
[edit]The Dorado hydrocarbon discovery has caught everyone off guard. Santos confirms that this discovery is bigger than they thought daunting them to take on this project in the future. In 2019, a third well was drilled and called Dorado-3.
