SC Wismut players with the cup trophy

The 1954-55 season saw the fifth competition for the FDGB-Pokal, East Germany's national cup competition in association football.

56 teams from the regional Bezirkspokal competitions, 18 teams from the second-tier DDR-Liga and all 14 teams from the top-tier DDR-Oberliga entered the first round. Up until the third round, a knock-out mode was played that led to ten remaining teams by the fourth round. Fortschritt Meerane and Empor Rostock were given a bye to the quarter finals. There, three matches were played, with Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt given a bye to the semi-finals. Only Oberliga clubs were present in the semifinals, as Fortschritt Weißenfels had been eliminated as the last DDR-Liga team in the quarterfinals, as well as defending champions Vorwärts Berlin.
