The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Fes (FMPF) established by Decree No. 2-94-130 of 13 Hijja 1414 (May 24, 1994) amending and supplementing Decree No. 2-90-554 of 2 Rajab 1411 (18 January 1991) relating to institutions and universities. This faculty is an institution belonging to the university Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, the faculty is in the city of Fez. It was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI on the 20th. Its creation aims essentially at20[1]:

  • decentralize medical education in Morocco and improve its level.
  • at the same time create the Hassan II University Hospital Center for training and tertiary care,

  • To stimulate clinical research and create excellence centers .
  • promote the implantation of doctors in their region for a homogeneous medical coverage of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Medical Studies Admission Test

Access to medical studies is open to civil secondary school students holding a scientific baccalaureate; (Series: Sc.Experimentales, Sc.Mathematics A and B, Sc.Originelles and Sc.Agronomiques) under the academies of the Fez-Meknes region: Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Boulemane, Meknes, Alhajeb, Ifrane, Khenifra, Midelt , Errachidia, Taounate.

For foreign applicants who fulfill the conditions, the number of places is set within the limit of 5%.

The admission test is held in the last week of July and is based on three stages:

  1. Pre-registration online:
  2. Preselection: In descending order, on the general average of the tank. Successful candidates (their number is at least six times the number of vacancies).
  3. Written Admission Test: Covering the Baccalaureate's program in the following four subjects: Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

Reform of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Odontological Studies (REMPO)[4]

The Reform of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Odontological Studies (REMPO), which is in the process of being implemented since September 2015, allowed the integration of the License / Master / Doctorate (LMD) system with the application of the principles of anticipation, compensation and capitalization.

This reform also forecast the establishment of bridges with other neighboring sectors at different stages of the university curriculum.

REMPO envisaged a harmonization of the program between faculties of medicine and a revision of the programs, to take into account the new profile of the general practitioner, according to a book of national pedagogical standards of the diploma of doctor of medicine:

The doctoral medical faculty diploma course is a seven-year postgraduate course of study comprising 14 semesters culminating in the Doctor of Medicine Diploma. It includes a coherent set of modules designed to provide the student with knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of medicine.

Organization of the medical studies

The Doctor of Medicine degree course is 7 years long and includes 14 teaching, learning and evaluation semesters organized as follows:

- The first four semesters are principally preclinical and fundamental. They are reserved to teaching basic and fundamental sciences. students should validate a training to understand Moroccan health system and another training about social medicine.

- Semesters S5 to S10 combine half-day clinical internships and theoretical courses aimed at acquiring and developing clinical skills.

- Semesters S11 to S14 are devoted to full-time internships.

At the end of the seventh year of the studies, students who have validated all the years of the training are authorized to pass a national qualifying examination to evaluate the skills acquired. The national habilitation exam is organized by the faculty under the responsibility of a jury appointed by the school's dean.

After the validation of the national habilitation exam, a thesis is prepared at the end of studies and is the subject of a defense.

Each semester consists of 6 to 7 modules with a minimum hourly volume of 50 hours per module and an overall semester volume of up to 400 hours of teaching and assessment.

The studies include at least 89 modules. It is divided into three blocks of modules: 

- A block of major modules, reflecting the disciplinary scientific nature of the degree. These modules are at least 84 modules.

- A block of complementary modules, consisting of modules related to the areas of training. These add-ons are at least 2 modules.

- A block of tools and opening modules necessary for the reinforcement of professional and personal skills and aptitudes. The number of tool and opening modules is at least 3 modules.

The total hourly volume of the training is at least 4500 hours of lessons and assessments.

Obtaining a doctor's degree in medicine requires: 

  • Validation of all years of medical doctor training;
  • Successful completion of the National Habilitation Examination;
  • Admission of the doctoral thesis in medicine.

Delivered diplomas

The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy ensures the preparation and issuance of the following national diplomas:

Doctor of Medicine degree: 7 years of study (3 cycles) with a Hybrid LMD System. 

Specialty Degrees: in 35 disciplines (Medical, Surgical and Biological) 3 to 5 years of study depending on specialty.

Doctor of Science degree: Doctoral Training in Medical Sciences and Translational Research.

University Degrees (DU): in different disciplines.

Association of Clubs and Associations of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Fes (ACAFMPF)

According to the Dahir N ° 1-58-376 of 3 Joumada I 1378 (November 15, 1958) modified and completed by the Dahir of 6 Rabii I 1393 (April 10, 1973) regulating the right of constitution of the associations, and the law 75- 00 of July 23, 2002 promulgated by the Dahir No. 1-02-206, it was created an association called: Association of Clubs and Associations of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Fez, defined by the initials ACAFMPF.

This association was founded by all associations and clubs (15 in number) constituting the associative fabric of the Faculty of Medicine for medical students in the first place in 2015 under the name of the Associative Union of the FMPF and officially the 16th of November 2017.

The association organizes several events such as the blood donation campaign, the national Olympiads of medicine, the SIMCUP 2018[5], student integration days, sports tournaments, Fes-Dakar 2018 scientific days [6]...etc

Docs Voice Fez

Docs Voice Fez is a communication and media club aiming to be the voice of medical students through several activities and projects founded by Mohammed KACIMI ALAOUI, a medical student. Made up of young medical students, driven by a common desire for change, popularization of science and medical studies, and dissemination of concepts related to medicine. A coherent and complementary group, full of sympathy and energy and supported by all components of our faculty. 

Council of Medical Students of Fes (CEMF)

The Council of Medical Students of Fes (CEMF) is an organization in the form of a students office that aims to defend the common interest of medical students in Fez through the elected representatives of each promotion, the CEMF was founded in 2008 by a group of students, and was the interlocutor between the deanship and students with regard to pedagogical and academic affairs.

Association of Friends of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Fes (AAFMPF)[7]

The AAFMPF is founded by a group of professors, doctors and social actors and intellectual inhabitants in Fez, and aims to work for the development and promotion of education, training and research in the field and aims to participate in local, regional and national human development and aims to assist the FMPF in achieving its goals of continuing medical education and scientific research.
