The show originally aired in May 2011, and aired its last episode in July 2015. Most of the episodes were recorded at the Earwolf studio in Los Angeles, California.[1] Professor Blastoff was hosted by three comedian friends: Tig Notaro, Kyle Dunnigan, and David Huntsberger.
Tig Notaro is a stand up-comic, writer, and actress. She gained popularity after releasing a comedy special (Tig Notaro: Live),[2] that featured her experience after her mother's unexpected death and being diagnosed with breast cancer. Notaro has a Showtime documentary about her life and career post-cancer called Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro. In September 2016, she co-wrote, produced, and starred in a show loosely based on her life titled One Mississippi.[3]
Kyle Dunnigan is stand-up comic, writer, and actor. He has appeared on talk shows such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Dunnigan is a writer and actor in various skits on the show Inside Amy Schumer. In 2015, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.[4]
David Hunstberger an american comedian. He has recorded three comedy CDs: Hello Robot (2005), Humanitis (2011), and Explosion Land (2013). In 2015 he began hosting the Syfy show titled Reactor.[5]
The podcast focused on topics of science, philosophy, and humanities. Each episode featured a guest that had specific knowledge of that week's topic. The format of the show involved a fabricated backstory where a lost Professor transmitted data to the trio from space.[6] Fans of the show refer to themselves as "Blastronauts".[7]
Reception

The podcast was also listed at number 9 in Rolling Stone's "20 Best Comedy Podcasts Right Now" in 2014.[9]
