Delicate Steve, headed by Steve Marion, is an Instrumental/Psych pop group from Fredon, New Jersey. Marion wrote nearly all of the songs himself and, when he decided to start playing live shows, gathered a group of friends to take up the other instruments.[1] Delicate Steve has toured with Akron/Family and Fang Island, and has done collaborations with the likes of Sonic Youth, Dirty Projectors, Maps & Atlases, and Les Savy Fav. Delicate Steve is signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop Records.[2]

Before Delicate Steve, Marion and his friends Mike Duncan and Adam Pumilia played together in the band Baller Banks. Christian Peslak and Mickey Sanchez were high school friends of Marion as well, and all five band members were part of the Smallboypants collective/ record label. Marion originally worked as an engineer for the Smallboypants artists. Following a friend's taunt, he began referring to the studio as "Delicate Studios," which lead to the name Delicate Steve.[3] Through Smallboypants, Marion began to explore various music scenes in New Jersey and New York, find his bearings as an artist himself. After recording and releasing Wondervisions on Smallboypants, Steve began passing out his demo to bands he liked, including Yeasayer, who awarded him a support slot. After playing a few shows, Luaka Bop records got a hold of Delicate Steve, signed him, and re-released Wondervisions.[4] Delicate Steve's live shows are notably different from the recorded tracks in the band's frequent improvisation. Although the songs were recorded with just one person, a onstage connection between the band members is noiceable.[5]
