ON ISLAM AND TERRORISM, EXTREMISM AND IGNORANCE
Having read from different writers dissociating Islam from terrorism, writing couple of articles on the topic, I stated that it is time we stopped being apologetic when a supposed Muslim carry out acts of terror as regards ISIS, AL-QAEDA and Co., and this, I still maintain.
In this article, I won't be discussing whether terrorist groups like Boko Haram, ISIS and Co. are Islamic movements, rather, I will focus on
- WHOM CAN WE CALL AN ISLAMIC TERRORIST
- EXTREMISTS IN ISLAM
- RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LIBERAL AND EXTREME MUSLIM.

The members of politically motivated groups such as ISIS and Co. are being labeled as Islamic extremists/fanatics. This we cannot agree it, the reader should kindly refer to Hillary Clinton's revelation as regards the creation of AL-QAEDA, admitting they (The USA) created the group, hence we cannot be sorry nor responsible for any action carried out by groups of this regard.
On another note, we must admit we have extremists in Islam as we have extremists in several other religions or ideology. I'll categorize these extremists
✳ THE NON-VIOLENT EXTREMISTS ( JAM'AATU TEKFIRIYAA)
We can accept these sets of people to be Islamic extremists being extreme on the Qur'an and Sunnah yet Islam not being responsible for their ignorance and extremism.
Extremists of this regard are specialists in tekfiring people. The reader should note that these sets of people are different from the people of Bid'aah. They are the self-appointed Bid'aah police that would say,
- Eating with spoon is Bid'aah
- watching TV is Bid'aah etc
Because the prophet never used or did them when he was alive but these same people eat jollof rice, eba, Fufu, Amala, as if Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ate them. Double standards!
These are also extremists and they are ignorant but different from the Islamic extremists/terrorists of the western media.
It is this type of extremism that leads to violent extremism,
✳ VIOLENT EXTREMISTS
Someone can only be regarded as Islamic extremists if only he is extreme on the Qur'an and Sunnah, not politically motivated though his being extreme on the Qur'an and Sunnah doesn't make his action Islamic, rather he is ignorant yet we cannot say he is not of us though we nor Islam is responsible for his ignorance.
An extremist Muslim is one that will see killing someone who blasphemes prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a good deed not taking into cognizance that he is in a multi-religious community not also noting that even if he is a society where the Sharia law is being implemented, there is a due process and it is not for him to punish someone who blasphemes.
The actions of extremists like this can lead to terrorism as acts of terror causes fear and shock. Extremists like this are not politically motivated compared to Boko haram, ISIS, AL-QAEDA etc yet Islam is not responsible for the ignorance of extremists like this.
Extremists like this cannot go to a central mosque and blow them up or stay in Muslim dominated areas, the middle east for example, bombing and bombing yet leaving a nation like Israel out of it. This is what defines the difference between an extremist on Qur'an and Sunnah from the Islamic terrorist of the social media.
Violent Extremists on Qur'an and Sunnah do not have hard drugs, sex pills, Alcohol etc in their custody compared to Boko Haram and Co.
However, it is important to note that this is not an argument in favour of the violent extremists on Qur'an and Sunnah, I maintain that he is ignorant and Islam is not responsible for his action yet we must identify who is an extreme Muslim and a politically motivated criminal labeled as Islamic terrorist.
✳ EXTREMISTS LABELLED BY THE LIBERALS
These are people considered by liberals to be extremists. Anyone telling a liberal Muslim to use hijab, proper use of hijab, not having his trousers below his ankle, eat and drink with right hand becomes an extremist and fanatic to a liberal.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE EXTREMIST AND THE LIBERAL.
My brother, Eseoghene Al-Faruq Ohwojeheri once wrote on this and he really put it straight. I'll be writing this in light of his analysis buttressing it a bit.
An extremist ( excluding the one labeled by liberals) is the brother of a liberal and vice versa because both cause harm to the religion, misrepresenting it making those who study Islam from them grossly misunderstanding Islam.
For example,
A liberal Muslim sees no harm in worshiping with non-Muslims in their place of worship while an extremist thinks he is doing a good deed by killing the non-Muslims while a Muslim submitting to Allah's will leaves them, not joining nor killing them, practically following "Lakum deenukum waliyadeen"
The extremist becomes liberal because he doesn't heed the Qur'an command that no compulsion in religion, distorting the fundamental teachings of the deen while the liberal becomes an extremist because he goes extreme on the freewill given to him while the Muslim believes he should practise Islam the way it is not making it softer nor stricter.
A Muslim is one who follows the Qur'an and authentic hadeeths with the understanding of the predecessors.
ISLAM DOESN'T SUPPORT TERRORISM RATHER IT TEACHES PEACE AND DOESN'T GIVE ROOM FOR EXTREMISM OR LIBERALISM NEITHER IS THERE MODERATE ISLAM OR MUSLIM, ISLAM IS ISLAM AND A MUSLIM IS A MUSLIM, ANYTHING MORE OR LESS IS AT THE DETRIMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL.
The major cause of these acts of extremism is ignorance, hence it is important for every Muslim to seek knowledge especially parents, making sure their children are learning from people with the correct knowledge of the Qur'an and Sunnah. _________________________
On a final note, non-Muslims should learn to respect our faith more instead of crying more. The one who deliberately blasphemes other people's religion and is killed has not really done well enough while the killer deserves no appraisal yet one part of the human being cannot but say "serves him right" to the one who deliberately blasphemes to incite anger and Violence.
As we strive to think well, as we work on respecting one another, as we strive to practise Islam as it is, May Allah not deprive us of his mercy.
