Major Kurt Chew-Een Lee was a heroic figure in the history Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War and the first Asian-American to be commissioned a regular officer in the United States Marine Corps. He is a recipient of the Navy Cross and highly-decorated for his actions in Korea. The Smithsonian Channel premiered a documentary in 2010 titled "Uncommon Courage: Breakout at Chosin" and based largely on the actions of Lee and his fellow Marines.
Awards
[edit]Maj Lee is a highly decorated Marine, receiving decorations for valor and personal awards in both the Korean War and Vietnam. In addition to the Navy Cross, the Navy's second highest honor for valor in combat (second only to the Medal of Honor), he also received the Silver Star and the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Ribbon with "V" Device (for valor in combat).[1]
