Casting and creation
[edit]On September 19, 2017, Daytime Confidential reported that "multiple sources" were telling them that Tamara Braun was "thisclose" to returning to General Hospital since her 2014 one-off appearance as Carly Corinthos, a role she previously portrayed from 2001 to 2005.[1] One-month later, in October, Entertainment Weekly exclusively announced that Braun would return to General Hospital in a newly-created role; she will make her first appearance as Kim on November 22, 2017.[2] On November 17, 2017, Soap Opera Digest announced that Braun would portray the role of Kim Nero, Oscar's mentioned-but-never-seen mother. Speaking on her decision to step into the role of Kim, a regular role, Braun told the publication: "The timing and the storyline and the character seemed right — and here I am!"[3]
Character development
[edit]Storyline
[edit]Dr. Kim Nero (Braun) is the mysterious mother of Oscar Nero (Garren Stitt). In November 2017, she arrives at the home of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) to attend Thanksgiving dinner. Upon her arrival, she makes it known she is aware of Sonny's background and that she believes Oscar's relationship with Carly's daughter, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), will likely not last. She is then taken aback by the arrival of "Patient 6" (Steve Burton) — whom she believes to be "Drew" — Jason Morgan (Billy Miller)'s twin brother. She admits she knew "Drew" as Andrew Cain, a former navy seal, whom she claims was in a relationship with her friend when she was living in San Francisco, California.
