Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma, born on February 22, 1954, in the village of Faguram in the Sakti district, hails from the soil of Chhattisgarh. He is a prolific writer known for his profound sensitivity. His nationally acclaimed story, “Machhuare Ki Ladki” (The Fisherman’s Daughter), has been included in the curriculum of Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya, Bastar M.A. (Hindi) program. The story, rooted in the rich cultural landscape of Chhattisgarh, stands out for its unique perspective and narrative craftsmanship.
Academic Journey and Literary Contributions
Dr. Verma worked as an agricultural scientist at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) from 1980 to 2019. During this time, he contributed significantly to the field of Hindi and Chhattisgarhi literature, particularly in the area of grammar. His expertise in grammar led to the inclusion of his work in reference books across various universities in Chhattisgarh.

Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma comes from a politically active family with rural roots. His father, Shri Bhawanilal Verma, served as a minister in Madhya Pradesh. His father was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India as a member of the Indian National Congress.. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Chandrapur constituency from 1967 to 1990 and a Member of Parliament (MP) from Jangir constituency from 1991 to 1996. Dr. Verma’s wife is a renowned poetess in Chhattisgarhi literature.
His daughter, Bhavana Verma, received a gold medal in M.A. from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, in 2006, while his son, Rahul Verma, achieved the same feat in M.Com in 2012. Dr. Verma pursued his M.S.-Ph.D. in Crop Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur.
