History

[edit]

Gualy is an European jewellery designer brand, available exclusively online in the 27 EU countries. The brand was created in 2008 by two Portuguese women, Liliana Guerreiro and Teresa van Oerle, when living respectively in São Paulo and in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Later on, they founded the company Design 4P, Lda. (4 P's for people, pleasure, planet and profit), in Lisbon, taking advantage of the Portuguese tradition of silver and gold craftsmanship, and registered the brand Gualy as their Trademark. As a part of it’s branding the company is strongly associated with Amethyst (colour).

The birth and values of the brand were based on new societal trends, related to the surge of a "new luxury" concept in the last decade.[1]

Founders of the brand

[edit]

Gualy was founded by Liliana Guerreiro, designer with an MBA at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Teresa van Oerle, marketing manager and Global OneMBA student at Rotterdam School of Management with the aim of catering to the needs of modern living, where time is mostly limited and online services mean flexibility and time saving: "Time—that is, the lack of it—is still one of the biggest consumer trends around. ...Anything that you can do to help save consumer's precious time is worth its weight in".[2]

Products

[edit]

Gualy designer jewellery is made with Sterling Silver rhodium or ruthenium plated, 18k yellow gold and natural coloured gemstones, the most abundant in nature, like amethyst and some varieties of tourmaline and sapphire.[3]

Collections

[edit]

Gualy designs long lasting jewellery collections, currently based on 4 major concepts, each one focused on different themes.

Sustainability

[edit]

Gualy online store includes a silver and gold recycling programme through which old jewellery can be recycled. The metals are valued according to the London Gold fixing and London Silver fixing. All packaging used by Gualy is certified by the Forest_Stewardship_Council (FSC), an international forest management organization. Gualy’s supports the international social projects of www.worldvision.org, sponsoring the education of two African children.
