Editing Example[edit]

[edit]

Hello! This is an editing example for art history students in preparation for Mt. SAC's 2023 Wikipedia Edit-a-thon with Art+Feminism. Mt. SAC Librarians work with Art History Professors to help students for the past four years to learn about the important of the Art+Feminism campaign using library research methods.

What to consider[edit]

[edit]

Note: Currently, we are in our user page. The user page shares with others information about you and your editing interests. You don't have to add personal or identifier information. We recommend you use your sandbox to practice editing and keep notes about editing. We are using thed editing user page as a fun and quick example.

  1. First, let's log into Wikipedia and locate our "user page".
  2. Once you login and are in your user page we will want to start to edit by using the "visual editor".
  3. Write a few sentences. Maybe something about your artist, why editing Wikipedia is worthwhile, or anything you feel would be fun to edit as part of this practice that you would want in your user page. You can also use your sandbox if you prefer.
  4. EXTRA TIME: Review your artist's page to consider what you might add for the edit-a-thon later this month. No need to make any edits now, this can just help you think about it without any pressure.
Today we will learn some basics of editing[edit]
[edit]
  • How to interlink (adding links to other Wikipedia pages)
  • How to link (adding links to websites outside of Wikipedia)
  • Explore the visual editor:
    • Consider how to use headings
    • The links feature
    • After this example you will learn how to add citations.
