Darshan Trivedi

Dr. Darshan Ashwin Trivedi is a filmmaker from India. At the age of ten DT joined entertainment industry, first as a Radio artiste and later as a television, theatre and film actor. DT has worked with startups, up scaling and restructuring of media ventures. DT holds a Ph.D. degree in Sociology and Law from Gujarat National Law University[1]. He also holds Master’s Degree in Development Communications.

Early Life

Dr. Darshan Ashwin Trivedi a.k.a. DT was born to Ashwin Trivedi and Nalini Trivedi on 4 th August 1977 in Ahmedabad, India. Darshan was an average student and first twelve years of his life were spent mostly at home as he was suffering from allergic bronchitis which will aggravate asthma attacks to him. He has an elder sister Deepali Shukla. He first attended Sadhna School and later finished his schooling from Sharda Mandir Vinay Mandir. Darshan completed his Bachelor’s degree of commerce from H. A. College of Commerce and Master’s degree from Centre for Development Communication, Gujarat University with a Gold Medal. As a child Darshan featured in multiple television series, theatre productions and radio plays. Darshan was an empanelled actor with All India Radio, Doordarshan and DECU. That is where he picked up some of his early skills for Audio Visual Content creation, which later he would apply to in content creation. Darshan was always remembered for his most popular television serial Vanarsena, on Ahmedabad Doordarshan.

Career

First Darshan started his acting career in 1986 with All India Radio when he was just 9 years old. Darshan started his career as a development communications expert, where he made short films as well as documentaries. He was one of the first persons who made digital video films in Gujarat region in fiction format. He worked briefly with Zee Television and made educational shows. Eventually he joined FM Radio Station of Gujarat (Radio Mirchi) and made hundreds of radio promo. Radio was not enough for him and he looked at joining television again by joining Sony Entertainment Television. He briefly moved to Canada and made a short film, Suicide which went to a few festivals. Darshan came back to India and joined Zoom Television as a creative head. Later he joined Reliance Broadcast Networks Limited, where he headed Gujarat and New Markets for their television production company, Big Productions and Later as non metro programming head of Big FM. It is during this time when Darshan decided to complete his studies and joined PhD programme as a part time candidate with Gujarat National Law University. While studying Darshan also consulted to organizations like Moving Pixels Company, Trilogic Digital Media Limited and Memesys Cultural Labs Pvt. Ltd. Darshan also founded a mass communication school LJ Institute of Media and Communications in Ahmedabad and served as its director for two years. He finished his studies in 2017 and joined full time academics.

Darshan worked as the associate professor with MICA[2], where he headed the Media and Entertainment Management Area. Darshan teaches Business of Media and Entertainment Management at various institutes since 2010. Darshan is founder of an unregistered non profit initiative called Gujarati Film Fraternity, which helps Gujarati language filmmakers develop the industry. Darshan made his debut Gujarati feature film Mrugtrushna in 2018[3].

Personal Life

Darshan got married to Pruthvi a.k.a. Mighty in 2003. The both had met in Radio Mirchi where they worked together. They both had a troubled marriage. It lasted for fifteen years. Both of them have two sons, Taapas born in 2004 and Vitaan born in 2010. Darshan and Pruthvi got divorced in 2018.
