Me the Wikipedian
[edit]As an editor, I would say my specialty is redirecting, followed by little "gnomish" things here and there, espcially making every link I can think of. Other than the automatic contributions log, I don't normally keep a record of these things (see my related discussion tendancy in the intro).[citation needed]
I recently read a Facebook group title terming Wikipedia the "ramen of encyclopedias", with which I basicaly agree. That is, it's got the necessary "knowledge calories" for getting some of us through the day, and (also literally the case with ramen, if you have a huge amount) it's possible to get lost in it. Also, there's no reason to make a huge deal out of it one way ("Wikipedia is the greatest encyclopedia ever!") or the other ("Wikipedia consists of lies!"). Ramen caters to a certain population, is best for certain purposes and marginally useful for others, and so does the 'kpedia. If you want a more balanced, expensive, trustworthy meal, try the Britannica.
I have a feeling ramen is probably an ongoing, user-participatory experiment as well. (Yeah, yeah, I know that Wikipedia is not an experiment in democracy, but that doesn't rule out other things, does it? Even Jimbo apparently agrees.)
This is an example of my in-wikipedia application of the wiki concept; in retrospect, I'd probably have done a more solid job on the first round, but you know what they say about hindsight...
A little about myself
[edit]I read America's finest news source.
Article focus
[edit]In this section, I plan to raise an issue regarding an article for the sake of general discussion, and if no one repsonds here or at that article's page in a week (or other stated amount of time), I'll make the change I want to and change the current article. Does that make sense?
Current article focus
[edit]• (It was something that seemed essay-ish; I'll get to it when I find it in my history... Oh yeah! Severe Tire Damage (band) Now I just have to write about it...)
OK, you want a response to your essay-ish comment, so here it is. The Severe Tire Damage article has been dinged often by Wikipedia editors, and has been cleaned-up significantly. I find it sad that people still complain about it. Instead of hacking the article (which will surely prompt further cleanup by me), why not tell me what you don't like about it, and I'll try to make it acceptable. And by the way, someone else just added the "tribute" section describing the "Monk" TV show, which I think is wrong and plan to remove myself. Strubin 18:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, I thought I'd already responded to this days ago! Grrrrr… anyway, don't mind that anymore, the article has definitely seen major improvement since the time (months ago) that I wrote that… as for the Monk thing, yeah, that would be right. Once again, the pace of editors like you outstrips mine by a long shot… Lenoxus " * " 03:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
