Cell: The Series

[edit]

A talented software engineer wakes up after a night on the town to find himself in a cell. When he realizes he's not in prison and he's not alone, he fights to stay who he is while helping someone else remember who they were.

Cell is ultimately a story about complex characters, even though it's set in a mythology that has sci-fi and thriller elements in it.

Mystery is scattered through the story with the goal of creating a sense of discovery that can coincide with the personal discoveries made by the characters. Conspiracy and intrigue on a global level intertwine with personal and familial drama in ways that aren't always so clear-cut.

Each season is focused on the characters and what they find. Season 1 is focused on finding yourself and who you are as a person. Season 2 is focused on finding family, not the mythological Family or genetic family, but the people that you love and trust as you go through your life. Season 3 will be about community and coming together to make change.

Mythology - The Family

[edit]

In order to understand much about Cell, it's important to understand how we got here.

Not long after the Civil War, a young, charismatic man known only as Michael began to spread his version of Christianity in the deep, agrarian South. He claimed that he was the Archangel Michael and he had come to lead God's army on earth. He would take the righteous and holy into his arms and escort their souls through the gates of heaven. Michael was fairly uneducated but had enough of a background in fire-and-brimstone protestant Christianity to know the basics. Enough to be dangerous. In spite of his lack of formal education, he was extremely pragmatic and had a calculating mind. With Reconstruction and the Long Depression (1879), Michael was able to establish himself as a leader of a sizable number of people in the South looking for someone to save them and restore their place in society. They bought land and created a compound where they could practice their beliefs. They called themselves the Army of God. They saw themselves as the righteous following Michael to save the world from sin by fighting it on all fronts.
