Bryan Ida

Bryan Ida is a painter who resides and works in Los Angeles, California. Ida was born March 1963 in Palo Alto, California. “con-Text” is an exhibit created by Bryan Ida that was a virtual experience at Cal State LA in the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery.

Early Career

Ida began his creative work by playing the French horn at El Camino youth symphony and in his school's orchestra as a child. Ida then later went on to study electronic music at San Jose State and Sonoma State University. After working for the noted abstract expressionist painter Sam Francis, Ida transformed his mode of expression from aural to visual, which began his painting career.Ida uses contemporary subjects with a connection to historic events to point out that man’s inhumanity toward man is universal and seemingly unending. The challenge is to express outrage to this injustice in a manner that can express as Ida states, “who I am and the way I want to communicate. I want to shout without screaming and inspire an emotional response from the viewer.” Emotions not of fear, hate and vengeance, but of compassion, respect, and a desire to right the wrongs that have been perpetrated on so many marginalized people in our society.[1][2]
