About Me

Hello all Wikipedia users! My name is Lauren and I am currently a freshman at Georgia Southern University. I am originally from Texas and came to Georgia only to attend Georgia Southern University. I currently play volleyball for the school, and for doing so am on a four year scholarship. I am a Pre-Med Biology major, with full expectations of attending medical school. I plan on settling back in Texas to attend medical school, studying anesthesiology.

I have a wide variety of hobbies. I love photography, and would lose my right leg to become a photographer for National Geographic. I was very close to my brother while growing up, because of this I was a little bit of a tom boy! This is a major reason why I love being outdoors and participating in rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. Also because I am an athlete I enjoy trying my hand at a variety of sports, especially swimming.

Wikipedia Contributions

I have recently created the article Georgia Southern University volleyball, and will keep updating it to make improvements. I knew it would be a great contribution to Wikipedia, especially since I think we are the greatest team in the world! I have also provided style advice to articles titled Street Talk and Oil Wrestling. I have contributed minor editing within articles such as Oil Wrestling, Bad Girls Club, That 70's Show, Nip/Tuck, Manohara, and East-European Shepherd.

Relationship to Technology

Personally I feel that technology has been one of the greatest and most convenient advancements made within the last ten years. I am not the greatest person when it comes to being a technology whiz, but I do know how to manipulate it to where I can use it to my advantage. I would much rather type than write, especially for the spell check. I am by far the world's worst speller! I enjoy technology to the limits of computers, and music devices. I do not enjoy video games, nor do I enjoy watching people play video games for hours.

Philosophy of Wikipedia

It's funny to hear the debates pertaining to Wikipedia on if it is a reliable source. Personally, in high school Wikipedia was banned when finding sources for any paper. This is because our teachers did not believe it was a reliable source, and therefore made sure to program their bias opinion in our head as well. Because of this I never looked, or scrounged around on Wikipedia for myself. Recently I have done so, and I must say Wikipedia is a whole new world. The thought and dedication that it takes for one to make a successful article is quite particular. Upon my research I still do not find Wikipedia reliable enough to site within important papers. However, I do find it as a good resource to find background information, and to find a linked source to locate the needed resources. I especially enjoy the variety of topics it offers articles on. If you search a rare topic, Wikipedia is most likely to have an article on it! It's great for people to be able to write on topics they feel are notable, and see themselves be successfully published. This is a reason why I feel that Wikipedia should remain non-profitable, and an open writing encyclopedia.

Languages

Unfortunately I do not speak more than one language, and am only fluent in English. I did take French in high school; however, do not remember anything besides Bonjour! If I could pick to be fluent in any language I would have to say that I would want to be fluent in Spanish. I feel like it is slowly becoming a necessity in today's society.

Superstitions

• Always have to have the first bite of a pizza if I decide to share, same with cheese cake.
• Can never wear sunscreen.
• Superstitious when wearing a seat belt, therefore I do not wear one.
• I never am able to microwave food; I always have to use the oven if I heat any food up.
• I wear my hair a certain way with each of the jerseys I wear for volleyball games.
