Article: Health in South Korea
According to WHO in 2015, the age-standardized prevalence of tobacco smoking in the republic of South Korea is 49.8% (4). However, the "daily smoker" in 2017 OECD data have shown that the prevalence rate of smoking is 20 percent population aged over 15. Starting on January 1, 2015, the republic of South Korea Ministry of Health banned the use of smoking in the café, restaurants, or bars. Facilities, such as government offices, public institutions, public transport facilities and schools have become smoke-free zones. In 1986, the republic of Korea mandated tobacco manufacturers to include warnings on cigarette packages. The government also expanded funds for anti-smoking education and advertisement in 2004. The violation against the smoke policy include a fine, which is less than 100 thousand won (3).
