'Mahendran Arumugam [மகேந்திரன் ஆறுமுகம்] was born on January 1954 is a philanthropist and the 6th and current President of the Sathya Sai Baba Central council of [Malaysia]. Prior to this, he was the deputy president for 6 years under the leadership of Bro Suresh Govind. Mahendran has held various positions within the Sai council of Malaysia including Vice President of Service and Central Region Coordinator. Mahendran has organised many mega service project such as the water project in Indonesia, special mission to Pakistan, rebuilding a village after major disaster in Myanmar, rebuilding a village in ache after the tsunami disaster, providing aid to floor victims during the worst ever floor which hit southern Malaysia. He also managed to collect approximately MYR 1 million for the flood victims and many more during his tenure as National Service coordinator. He also launched a few SAIRAM Projects and was the person behind the HOPE (Honour Your Parents) agenda which was a big success nationwide. Despite being involved in many service activities, he never fails to spent time with his mother. He was there at every moment for his mother until her last breath. Beside his mother, Mahendran has a mentor who is the founder of Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia, Dato J Jegatheesan. Mahendran consult almost everything with him before making decision.
Sathya Sai Orgnisation
[edit]The vision of the World Sathya Sai Organization is to raise the levels of consciousness in humanity. This is primary the purpose as to why Sathya Sai Organizations have been set all around the world. An incredible vision for the present times, considering the crisis in almost every aspect of living. In Malaysia, the Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia is a non-sectarian, non-governmental organization dedicated to the promotion of human values, national unity and selfless service for the poor, sick and needy. It has more than 80 centres and units all over the nation. The organization, inspired by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, is part of the worldwide organization in over 180 countries which have moved millions of people to roll their sleeves and help humanity in whatever way they can to alleviate suffering and escalate human consciousness. It is for this reason that regular service programs is an integral feature of all Sai Baba centres in Malaysia which includes visits to old folks home, orphanage, leprosarium, hospitals and poor communities. The organization in its role to escalate human consciousness, have since 1985 been organizing symposiums on human values, talks on science and spirituality in colleges, universities and corporate institutions to educate and escalate consciousness for values and service. The Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia has relentlessly learned, unlearned and relearned the purpose of the organization and examined the roles played by us in the light of creating major impact in the consciousness of the nation where we exist. Hence through the 30 odd years since its existence, the council has fostered through intelligent succession planning, meticulous check and balance, a proper system of governance which has resulted in harmonious feeling of love and unity amongst members. The organization is currently focusing on taking the tools developed, the consciousness for selfless service, the innovative human value programmes, the dynamic method of fostering youth talents and leadership, the force of the rekindling spirit for tradition and culture, the aspiration to learn spiritual values, the yearning to foster brotherhood of man through inter-religious service activities, the spirit of sacrifice-instilled and our deep rooted faith and devotion to larger sections of the community and society.
Early life
[edit]Mahendran was born on 28 January 1957, in a Hindu family to his mother Sinnamah, a housewife, and father Arumugam, an Estate worker, in Rantau, Negeri Sembilan. Mahendran was the third child for his parents. He have one elder Sister and brother and four younger brother and a sister. His father migrated from India to Malaysia looking for a better life. In Malaysia, he was a normal plantation work and his mother was a housewife. Mahendran lost his father in a very young age. Upon his father's demise, his mother took up the role of the head of the family assisted by his elder bro Rajan. His mother work very hard as a rubber tapper to support the big family. His elder Bro Rajan give up his studies in young age to assist his mother to support the family. Despite such difficult moment, his mother ensure that all the kids has proper education. Mahendran was brilliant boy who excel in his studies. He was among few from his estate who further his study into tertiary level.He obtain a diploma in Electrical from a local engineering institute. Mahendran married Vyjanatimala in 1988 and had two children, a boy and a girl. Mahendran established his own pharmacy late 2014, which is now being looked after by his children.
Knowing Swami
[edit]After his studies, he joined Bangsar Centre Oct 1979. He grew with the centre for good 10 years. He gathered lot knowledge and information.
Developing New Centres
[edit]Subang Jaya Centre After a while with divine blessings and Bro.Jega’s guidance, he initiated Subang Jaya Centre. He was the drummer, singer, arrange slipper, and altar, everything. After few months of the bhajan , a powerful team was formed. The bhajan group was parked under Bangsar Centre. Then it was handed over to Bro.Reddy after 4 years of leadership. Bro.Jega inaugurated the centre.
Klang Centre He worked with Bro.Guna Klang Centre while he was in Subang Jaya. He spoke to Auntie Indra and got a place for bhajan centre in Melawis Klang. Every week a team used to travel from Subang Jaya to Klang. There were not many people to sing. Later the support from public was impressive. Today they are a powerful centre. Bro.Jega inaugurated the centre.
Sri Muda Centre He initiated Sri Muda Centre while the Subang Jaya Bhajan was still on going. He worked with Bro.Sathi in Sri Muda. Many activities were carried out. Sri Muda Centre bought a double storey building (current building) and we handed over to Sathya Sai Foundation. Bro.Jega inaugurated the centre.
Nilai Centre With the help of Sri Muda Centre, he initiated a bhajan unit at Nilai. Sri Muda team visited for 1 year every week to provide constant support. Today the bhajan unit is stable and many activities are moving fine. I do visit the centre often. Bro.Billy inaugurated the centre.
Taman Yarl This is a splinter group from Sai Nivas. Bro. mahendran visited the unit many times and proposed and recommended to the exco for action plan. After few exco discussions this centre was parked under Sri Muda centre during his tenure as the chairman of the centre. Today they are on their own and constantly seeking advice on all their activities.
Seremban 2 Centre He also helped to initiate Seremban 2 centre with Bro. sathi. Bro.Jega inaugurated the centre.
Desa Mentari Centre Desa Mentari is another centre he started. The centre receives great respect for the community and Sai Organization from all communities living there. It has 2 shop lots with daily service activities. Bro.Jega inaugurated the centre.
Sunway Centre Bro. Mahendran started a bhajan group few years back at Sunway. 20-25 people attend the bhajans every week. The EHV classes going. At this moment we are focusing on only Education and Bhajan. Other service activities they join Desa Mentari centre. I wish to see them as a Centre soon.
