GamesRadar+ editor Brett Elston described Scyther as initially his favorite, stating that while some may enjoy the cuter Pokémon‎, "there's just something about a fierce Bug with blade arms", further calling it a "very striking design" that had "a lot of angles and a lot of points". However he appreciated how Scizor's design was significantly different from Scyther while retaining some similarities, incorporating claws instead of blades into its design and retaining an insectoid look. Fellow writer Michael Grimm agreed, and felt the fake eyes on its claws helped further this imagery.
