The John S. Rainey Generating Station is an electric generation station located in the vicinity of Starr and Iva, South Carolina, near the Savannah River downstream of the Hartwell Dam. It is named for John S. Rainey, former chair of Santee Cooper from 1990 to 2000.[1] It currently has two combined-cycle natural gas turbines, a natural gas boiler, and dual-fuel, simple-cycle turbines. [2]
In 2018 it began operating two combined-cycle, natural-gas fired turbines.[3] The turbines are Siemens SGT-(5000F5) equipped with dry low NOx burners with selective catalytic reduction for NOx control and oxidation catalysts for CO and VOC control. The natural gas boiler is equipped with low NOx burners. The two simple-cycle turbines are permitted to use either natural gas or distillate fuel oil and are equipped with dual-fuel water injection for NOx control. There are two multicell mechanical-draft cooling towers.[4]
