Georgetown is an unincorporated community in Harrison Township, Harrison County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.
Geography
[edit]Georgetown lies within Harrison Township, which covers an area of 101.58 square miles (263.1 km²), of which 101.33 square miles (262.4 km²) is land and 0.25 square miles (0.6 km²) is water.
History
[edit]Harrison County, where Georgetown is situated, is one of the oldest counties in Indiana, established in 1808. The area has a rich history, with early European settlements beginning shortly after the American Revolutionary War. The county is named after William Henry Harrison, the first governor of the Indiana Territory and the 9th President of the United States.
Economy
[edit]The economy of Harrison County is diverse, with no single sector employing more than 13% of the local workforce. The largest employers in the area include Caesars Southern Indiana, Tyson Foods, and the Harrison County Hospital. Tourism is a significant part of the economy, focusing on the county's many historic sites.
