History

[edit]

Barton Malow Company was founded in 1924 as C.O. Barton Company by Carl O. Barton in Detroit, Michigan as a general contracting company and served as a general contractor for nearly fifty years. In March of 1932, The C.O Barton Company became Barton Malow Company. Then, in the early 1970s, the company broadened its services to include construction management with full preconstruction services, coordinating projects from planning through close-out.

In the early 1980s, the company was organized by markets - healthcare, sports, education, and corporate/industrial facilities - to develop a high level of expertise in the markets served. The Preconstruction group, formed in 1986 to support these groups with a reliable estimating system, has grown to more than 40 full-time engineers and architects; their expertise now includes all facets of project planning, value engineering and manpower planning.

Barton Malow Company employs over 1,000 full-time staff, including 350+ trades personnel, and has experience in 37 states, the District of Columbia and Mexico. Company revenues for the previous five years were in excess of $1 billion annually.
