Introduction
[edit]Hey there, my user name is Kingpenguin but my actual name is Jon. I use the handle kingpenguin because it has unfortunately been following me around for the last decade or so and I cannot seem to get rid of it. I reside in Calgary, Alberta Canada and work for an IT consulting firm that has several offices located across the country. I graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems a couple years ago and am so pleased to actually be working somewhere that lets me make use of my degree.
Wikis
[edit]My wife and I are quite fond the concept of a wiki as it seems to extend and complement one of our other favorite technologies, blogs. Although it has it's flaws and limitations, we have learned quite a bit because of wikipedia and always recommend it to others who are interested about learning something new.
How I came across wikipedia
[edit]My first experience with a wiki was when my manager at work informed me that we have a wiki on our intranet that is used for communication between developers. Although it seems that it is seldom updated, it is an interesting application of the technology and could be quite useful if more people incorporated it into their work experience. Although I have had seen for several years search results returned from Google that linked to wikipedia, I never quite knew what it was and didn't seem to have a resaon to investigate. The second I realized what a wiki was, I went back to the wikipedia and looked at with a whole new light.
