Social media can impact future employment without people being aware of what they publish on their social media page. Social media has taken over society, that hiring managers are browsing their future employee's social network pages to define what type of person they will be hiring. Managers are convinced by searching your social network website they can get a brief view of your social life besides your resume, cover letter, or interview.[1] They analyze what type of personality each person has possesses based on their social media page by these umpteen mistakes that teens or young adults erroneously do that could hurt their career.

Careless mistakes that are teens tend to do without being aware is complaining about their bosses, sharing their latest job offer, plagiarizing, using texting language, posting tasteless comments, or posting photos with alcohol or any illegal substances. [2]

According to Laura Vanderkam around 70% of U.S business managers did not hire a job candidate prior to their inaaprioate social media comments found on their page.[3]

Social media usage is so common and has drastically increased that companies evaluate their future employee's website before hiring them.

A beneficial social media page would be "LinkedIn", it is a top priority social media page but job related. According to an infographic by Career Glider, which cited Jobvite statistics, 79 percent of recruiters hire through LinkedIn, and of those who use it, more than 90 percent search for, contact and screen candidates based on their profiles on the site.

The social media is a big player in today’s world. Almost everything has been impacted by social media either positively or negatively. The effects that social media brings along are enormous; it is very hard to go a day without hearing the word social media because of its popularity and large use. In fact, to get the word out there is very easy with social media. Social media is used by people of all age brackets starting from the teenagers to the elderly. It started off as a place where people connected, but now it is so much more, more than anything that can be contained in a single document[4] . There are many fields that social media has impacted, in this case focusing on advertising, public relations, and job search.

Businesses have discovered the significant impact social media has on the marketing of their products. In fact, the most successful companies combine both traditional and social media way for their advertisements. However, social media has played a significant share in marketing businesses’ products and creating a customer base. As a matter of fact, the consumers themselves use social media to show their customer loyalty. They tend to comment on their satisfaction with the company’s products creating a larger customer base hence advertising is done. Consumers have started acting as ambassadors of products on social media in that they give reviews on their experiencing as a way of showing how well a company’s products in satisfaction of consumer needs are. With the high users of social media, word spreads around like fire on gasoline. Consumers are also using the internet as their sources of research for products. They tend to know which products will suit their needs through the internet and therefore companies have to be swift in attracting the consumer base. It is always said that businesses need to go where consumers are and since most people these days spend their time on social media, companies should diversify highly on social media as a way of investment.

There has been a significant impact brought about by social media on public relations. Those who have been in the field of public relations can testify to this. The changes have affected everyone in the discipline. There has been a full integration with public relations because the media and people have highly been integrated this only being one example as there are so many inextricable aspects of the social media. Social media has led to the perpetual vigilance whereby one complaint can create havoc for a whole company. It is never known how people will react to situations and therefore businesses have to set up a high standard to avoid the tarnish of their names. The journalists have unlimited access and insights through the social media. Journalists dwell on the juiciest and most interesting stories that will attract attention, and therefore companies have had to be more careful and vigilant in satisfying customer satisfaction. However, the companies can use this to their advantage by knowing how journalists and bloggers operate and how to best work with them.

Every graduate goes through the face of job search and no kidding this can be a tough stage of anyone’s life. However, social media has made the job search a little bit easier as people have access to hiring companies and know when opportunities are sent out. Sites like LinkedIn is a platform that has helped many people build their professional profiles and employers at times go looking for employees in Linked In. How cool is it that an employer comes looking for you and offering a job opportunity. It has helped so many job searchers and given them a place in the business industry. A job seeker, however, has to be careful with what they post on social media as negative feeds can make a potential employer pull back on an employment opportunity. A job seeker should clean up any pages they may have and set the highest privacy settings, maintain a good online reputation and ensure job news are offline.

Social media can have adverse as well as positive impacts. This all depends on how it is used; it will give results according to what it is fed. The positive effects of social media can be used to the advantage of something for instance business advertising can be well done and reach a larger group if the social media is used appropriately. In the case of negative impacts, the field concerned should find ways of rectifying the situation before it gets out of hand because there is nothing worse than reputation being tarnished on social media. The savages in social media are worse than anyone can ever imagine.
