User:Kilopylae

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kilopylae is an online persona active on Wikipedia and the RailUK forums. On Wikipedia, Kilopylae concerns themselves largely with trying to improve the style of its prose, especially in lede sections. These efforts have been dismissed online as "disgusting".[1] They have also written a small selection of articles themselves.

Etymology

[edit]

The word "Kilopylae" is from Phillip Reeve's Railhead, where it is a name for the Network, an ancient web of interplanetary railway lines that run through portals named gates: "Raven smiled. 'When I was a boy, we called it "Kilopylae". That means "the thousand gates" in one of the languages of Old Earth. That was the ancient name for it, the Guardians' name. It seems to have fallen out of fashion now.'"

  • I am the reason the lede of SARS-CoV-2 mentions the name "human coronavirus 2019 (HCoV-19 or hCoV-19)"
  • Rewrote the lede of Homestuck to avoid calling it just a "webcomic" in wiki-voice
