Frauke Schlieckau

Frauke Schlieckau (born 1978[1] in Hanover) is a German executive producer and director of documentaries, reports and cultural programmes, including for ZDF aspekte. She is the founder and managing director of the production company Bottega Berlin Productions.

Education

Frauke Schlieckau studied Art History, Modern German Literature and Theatre Studies at the Freie Universität of Berlin (FU) and the Venice International University in Venice and holds a PhD in Berlin. She holds an MBA Essentials Certificate from the London School of Economics (LSE), a Female Leadership Certificate from Yale University. She is an alumna of the Masterclass Non-Fiction at the International Film School Cologne.[2]

Career

In 2020, Frauke Schlieckau founded the production company Bottega Berlin Productions, which produces documentaries and documentary films focussing on art, culture and zeitgeist. Since then, she has been responsible for and realised numerous film projects as an executive producer and director. Her documentaries have been broadcast by international television channels and on streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime.

In cooperation with the American Rembrandt collector and founder of the Leiden Collection Thomas S. Kaplan, she has been directing and producing the documentary film "Rembrandt and His Heirs" since 2023. The film illustrates the influence Rembrandt had not only on his direct pupils, but also how his work has influenced artists through the centuries to the present day.

In 2021-2023, she produced several editions of the ZDF culture magazine aspekte for ZDF, for which she also worked as a director.

Her Arte documentary "Rembrandt's Age. Art, Market and Business" premiered at the Hamburger Kunsthalle in January 2022. Her contribution for Arte about the Bauhaus in Tel Aviv was shown at the ZKM Karlsruhe as part of the Bauhaus Year.

From 2013 to 2019, Frauke Schlieckau worked for the cultural editorial department of a Berlin production company, most recently as editorial director for the Arte Europa cultural magazine "Metropolis". During this time, she produced numerous art and cultural contributions, music formats, reports and documentaries as an author, director and producer for clients such as Arte, ZDF, ARD, 3sat, Deutsche Welle and Swiss television.

From 2011 to 2013, Frauke Schlieckau worked as a cultural editor in the ZDF capital studio in Berlin for the literary programme "Das blaue Sofa" and for ZDF's special programmes from the book fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig. In 2007 she was a presenter for the literary programme "Lettra!". The programme was broadcast on Premiere.

From 2000 to 2002, she completed a traineeship at NBC GIGA, the first interactive youth programme to be broadcast on NBC Europe. From 2002 to 2003, she was responsible for setting up the channel's own studio in Hamburg.

In 2011 and 2012, Frauke Schlieckau moderated numerous discussions with authors such as Ken Follett, Sibylle Berg and Donna Leon for ZDF/3sat for the ZDF/3 Sat special programmes "Das Blaue Sofa" and "Die lange Nacht des blauen Sofas" at the book fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig.[3]

In 2007, she regularly appeared on the daily live programme "lettra! Die Show", a daily live programme on the premiere literary channel Lettra.

From 2000 to 2002, she hosted the nationally broadcast live programmes "GIGA" and "GIGA Hamburg" on NBC GIGA, the interactive youth channel on NBC Europe.

Schlieckau has written several travel books for well-known German publishers, e.g. "Ein Jahr in Venedig" for Herder Verlag.[4]

She is also co-editor of the June anthology "Bluescreen: Visions, Dreams, Nightmares and Reflections of the Fantastic and Utopian".[5]

Frauke Schlieckau is part of the team of authors of the 5th BMW Art Guide and is an author for the online portal of the art magazine Monopol.[6]
