Bibliography

As you gather the sources for your Wikipedia contribution, think about the following:

Is the source from a reliable publication?
- Reliable publications include established newspapers, academic journals and books, textbooks, and other published sources with reputations for accuracy and fact-checking.
- Unreliable sources include blog posts and other self-published works, press releases, and social media posts.
Is the source verifiable?
- In order for a source to be considered verifiable, other editors should be able to consult the source.
Is the source independent of the subject?
- Is the source connected in any way to the subject? This is especially important when writing biographies or about organizations.
- For example, if you were writing a biography, sources like the person's webpage or personal blog would not be considered independent.
Is the source primary or secondary?
- Primary sources include first-hand accounts, autobiographies, and other original content.
- Wikipedia allows limited use of primary sources, but typically only for straightforward, descriptive statements of facts, and only if they are published and verifiable without requiring specialized knowledge.
- Secondary sources should be the main basis for a biography on Wikipedia.
If you're working on a topic related to medicine or psychology, ensure that your sources follow these special guidelines.
If you're creating a new article, consider the following:
- Ensure that your topic meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
- In order for a topic to meet the notability requirement, you must be able to identify 2-3 sources that are reliable, verifiable, and independent of the subject you're writing about.
- Finding sufficient sources to establish notability can be especially hard when writing about people or organizations.
- Sources that are not independent of the subject might be useful additions, but don't count towards the notability requirement.
- Wikipedia has developed special guidelines for writing about living persons. Please follow these carefully.
- Wikipedia has a series of guidelines for writing about different categories of people, such as academics and artists. If you're trying to create a new entry about a living person, please look at these carefully.

- Occom helped fundraise and support in the creation of Dartmouth College and the school still held many of his original papers from when he worked with the schools founder - Eleazar Wheelock. This is significant because the Natives believe in a spirtual connection with Occom and his work. I may use this in a revitalisation section along with modern linguistic acheivements (if I can find the sources)

- A very long source, though a few key points are the significance of stones in Native culture as well as interesting points about how the lens in which colonist viewed Natives. I would add the first point in a cultural/vision section and I would use the second to expand/adjust the history section.

Meehan, Susan W. Mohegan Foodways Past, Present & Future, Goucher College, 2013.
- Another long source written by a Native American with a lot of valuable information on the culture/history of the tribe. I think this source is interesting because its from a Native perspective. I may use it to round out the history section and provide more context on the culture of the tribe.

- This tribe emphasis the mohegans importance to the connecticut economy as well as its interests in supporting the environment. I am going to add to the economy section to modernize it (particular the point, as of 2012, that it pays more than all other Connecticut corporations in corporate taxes). I am also going to add it to the environmental point to the community contributions or if I make a new section on modern revitalization.

- Tells a quick summary about Lynn Malerba who is described as a Lifetime Chief of the Mohegan Tribe. She is actually already included on the wikipedia page but I will add her role in serving as a senior advisor to the Secretary in the areas of community development and public engagement.

- This article gives a description of various loans the mohegans dealt out to other tribes in order to help them build up casino. It shines a light on both economic developments as well as the value of "tribes helping tribes/"

- During the covid-19 pandemic, the tribe donated a lot of different goods to various charitable organisations throughout connecticut. This is a great piece to add to the community contributions page.

- This describes how the tribe is investing in other businesses - like a wood pellet facility to diversify revenues. I like this quote from the article:
  - "The Mohegan Tribe is happy to be involved in a venture that combines its overall philosophy of a reverence for the Earth with a solid business model," Kevin Brown "Red Eagle," chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council, said in a statement. "The wood pellet venture creates fuel from a renewable resource. This is a very valuable addition to our growing portfolio of investments that is taking the Tribe's economy in new and exciting directions."
  - I feel it shows how the tribe is growing economically as well as holding onto certain values.

- This article demonstrates how the tribe is creating and adding their own images to a national women's basketball team (the Connecticut Sun) that they own.I like this quote a lot, it demonstrates key cultural aspects of the tribe as well as how they are implementing their values in modern ways:

- This article described how the mohegan tribe entered into a partnership with another tribe that was severely struggling in running their casino. Over the course of a few years, the mohegan tribe invested in and helped shape the business and is now stepping back so the tribe can independently run their casino. This emphasis the ideal of "tribe helping tribe" and I may put it in to the community contribution.

- This is a book published by a university press, so it should be a reliable source. It also covers the topic in some depth, so it's helpful in establishing notability.
Galeano, Gloria; Bernal, Rodrigo (2013-11-08). "Sabinaria , a new genus of palms (Cryosophileae, Coryphoideae, Arecaceae) from the Colombia-Panama border". Phytotaxa.
- This is a peer-reviewed scientific journal, so it should be a reliable source. It covers the topic in some depth, so it's helpful in establishing notability.
Baker, William J.; Dransfield, John (2016). "Beyond Genera Palmarum: progress and prospects in palm systematics". Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society.
- This is a peer-reviewed scientific journal, so it should be a reliable source for a specific fact. Since it only dedicates a few sentences to the topic, it can't be used to establish notability.
