Keegan Philip Allen (born July 22, 1989) is an American actor born in Southern California.[1] He made his acting debut in 2002 in a short film titled “Small Emergencies”.[2] Keegan is best known for his current role as Toby Cavanaugh on the ABC Family hit series "Pretty Little Liars"

Personal Life

Allen is the son of Joan Snyder and Phillip Richard Allen, both talented artists. [3] [4] Joan is an expressionist painter whose works have been featured in museums such as the de Saisset Museum and the Jewish Museum. [5] Phillip R. Allen (died March 1, 2012) was an off-Broadway theater actor best known for his role as Captain Esteban in "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock" [6]

Belonging to a family of performers Allen always possessed a keen interest in the arts and the media industry. As a child his aim was to investigate all angles of the entertainment business.[7]

Career

Keegan’s passion in his younger years tended towards photography, cinematography and other roles behind the camera.[8] This coupled with his parents' background lead up to his job as an actor on the front stage.

At a tender age of thirteen Keegan landed his first paid job for a small, non-speaking role in a documentary for Animal Planet. [9] He went on to star in a short film, "Small Emergencies", as the Parakeet Owner’s Son in 2002. In 2010, after a long break from acting, Keegan starred in Nickelodeon’s TV show “Big Time Rush”.[10] In the same year, he starred in a short film entitled “As A Last Resort”. Shortly after, Keegan secured his breakthrough role as Toby Cavanaugh, Spencer Hastings’ (played by Troian Bellisario) love interest on ABC’s “Pretty Little Liars”. He also made an appearance in CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2011. This year, Allen played the role of Jake in an episode of Fox’s sitcom “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” and is currently working on a movie titled “Bukowski”, produced and directed by Hollywood star James Franco.[11]

In an interview, Keegan mentioned that he passionately keeps in touch with his fans through his Twitter account. Keegan includes in the interview that he also maintains an Instagram account to keep his fans up to speed with his daily life.[12] In addition, Allen also manages a blog on the microblogging platform, Tumblr. On his blog, Allen displays his continued childhood enthusiasm for photography and cinematography despite his digression into the acting industry. Allen is also an avid user of Keek, the recent social media tool that enables users to post video status updates.
