Wambach's ascension to the top of the game was quick. She had one of the best years in US Women's National Team history just three years into her career, scoring 31 goals in the final 30 matches of the year. Wambach is one of only five players in history to score 20 or more goals in a calendar year, including Mia Hamm, Michelle Akers, Kristine Lilly, and Tiffeny Milbrett. Wambach overtook Mia Hamm's world scoring record—a fellow FIFA Women's World Player of the Year and all-around soccer legend—in 2013 with an incredible four-goal performance against the Republic of Korea, when she also became the USA's all-time leader in multiple-goal games with 43.
