Labour Party (Vasuria)
[edit]The Labour Party of Vasuria is one of largest political parties in Vasuria. Originally founded as a collection of labour unions by likeminded miners during the height of the Vasurian Labour Movement, it was formally established in 822 by the merging of the Vasurian Miner’s Association and Union of Foundry Workers. Today, the Labour Party sits on the centre-left on the political spectrum, espousing social democracy as its core tenant of its left-wing origins.
The party supports increased government spending, social welfare, the separation of church and state, expanded healthcare and education benefits, and multiculturalism. In international relations, Labour is traditionally internationalist, though in recent years the party has shifted more to the right in regards to immigration, but more left in economic policy in regards to wealth redistribution, tax reform and free-trade between countries.
Throughout its history, Labour draws most of its support from the traditional working class, industrial sectors, labour unions, the middle-class, and academicians. Support is also largely concentrated in urban places, industrial towns, university cities and Vasuria's poorer provinces.
Today, the Labour Party typically forms coalitions with similarly centre-left and left-wing parties which includes the Green, Equity, Constitutionalist and sometimes the Communist Party of Vasuria. Coalitions across the traditional left and right are exceedingly rare. However, the 1019 election saw the highly unusual creation of a coalition between the Labour, Constitutionalist and centre-right Liberal party with the chairman of the Constitutionalist party, Severus I. Rorinus Menzo being the leader of the coalition, and Labour leader Sideronuticus A. R. Conta as deputy despite Labour winning the larger share of left-wing seats in the senate.
