[edit]Lead: Trafficking of men/boys in Mekong
[edit]Human trafficking is a serious crime that affects men, woman and children around the world. It involves putting or keeping someone in an exploitation situation usually for profit. Exploitation can involve situations including forced or debt-bonded labor, child labor, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude or armed conflict.[1]
Article body:
[edit]446 males between the ages of 10 and 58 were traded mainly for hunting, manufacturing and begging.[2] Factory workers and fishermen were forced to work long hours at their jobs. The male survivors had been trafficked and many of them had been injured. Only a few of them received no personal protective equipment.
Working Conditions:
[edit]Workers were held hostage without pay. In some cases, workers' documents can be confiscated, meaning they are forced to work in dangerous conditions without pay for a long period of time. Some employers will notify authorities if they find an unregistered migrant worker. Since their documents were taken away, these workers have no proof of their right to work in the country - and as a result, they have no way to hold their employer accountable for exploiting them.[3]
