Digital rhetoric evaluation

[edit]

Overall, I thought this was a well-developed article compared to many I have come across. My biggest concern is some of the subsections offer too much information and it doesn't all pertain directly to digital rhetoric, but should instead be referenced using links. Secondly, there are plenty of places where editors have identified that citations are needed.

  • After, "Today, rhetoric encompasses all forms of discourse that serve any given purpose within specific contexts, while also simultaneously being shaped by those contexts." I would potentially add, "Digital rhetoric, is shaping and being shaped by technology." to narrow the focus back to digital.[1]

Content

  • Definition
    • In the final paragraph, I would add another sentence describing the issues South Asian cyber feminists to be more specific and informative.
  • Forms and Objects of Study
    • Social Media
      • Add citation to #MeToo
    • Mobile Applications
      • The first 2 sentences of this section defining "Mobile applications" felt a little antiquated to me. Perhaps linking mobile apps' own page would be sufficient.
    • Politics
      • I felt like some of this section would fit better in this page: Social media use in politics.
        • The paragraph starting with this sentence "Members of the United States Congress use Twitter and other forms of social media to connect with their constituencies," and the following three paragraphs could be moved to this article, because there is not another explicit mention of rhetoric, but rather information revolving only around how politicians and their constituents use social media. While I understand this is rhetorical, I think the article would be better for readers if it was shorter.
  • History
    • Rhetorical velocity
  • Would TikTok fit under this category?
  • Controversies
    • Misinformation and disinformation
      • Like the politics section, this section is especially long and recounts events instead of just alluding to them and linking to misinformation, disinformation, Conspiracy theories
        • Importantly, I think the information written was very valuable and could be moved to those pages, rather than deleted.
