Overview
[edit]The 201 Fischer-Hallman iXpress is one of Grand River Transit's six "iXpress" express bus routes. After the conversion of the 200 iXpress in June 2019 to the 301 and 302 ION routes (a combination of light rail and adaptive bus rapid transit), the 201 is now the oldest operating iXpress route in the GRT system. It is primarily a north-south route, which runs parallel and to the west of the ION light rail line for the majority of its length. Its northern terminus is Conestoga station in Waterloo, and its southern terminus is Conestoga College Doon Campus Door 6 in Doon, Kitchener. In between, it stops at a number of other transit hubs such as University of Waterloo station, Block Line station, Highland Hills Mall, and Sunrise Centre. Transfer points exist for every other iXpress route except for the 206 Coronation, as most other iXpress routes run approximately east-west. There is only one transfer point for intercity transit service along the 201 route: University of Waterloo station, where it is possible to connect to GO Transit Route 25 buses. Statistically, the 201 is the third most crowded route in the GRT system at morning peak, with 2.1% of trips being overcrowded in 2018 to early 2019. It was not significantly overcrowded at any other part of the day.[1]
