Amigo Month is a celebration held annually in the United Kingdom from the first week of September to October 12th to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and highlight the contributions of Ibero-Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of Great Britain.

History: Amigo Month started in 2010. It was promoted by political analyst Isaac Biggio and supported by several non-governmental organizations and Latino leaders in London, as well as some representatives of the British government such as Baroness Hooper and the current Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in the United Kingdom and head of the Honduran Mission, Ivan Romero, among several parliamentarians from different British parties.

September was chosen as the month for the celebration because most of the Independence Day celebrations of Hispanic countries such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, who declared their independence in 1821, are commemorated from that date. In addition, Mexico, Chile, Belize, and Puerto Rico celebrate their independence days on September 16th, September 18th, September 21st, and September 23rd respectively, and the celebration culminates on October 12th, the day of the arrival of the Spanish in America.

In the early years of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in Great Britain, it was supported by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson when he was Mayor of London and by members of the British Parliament. Since 2012, most mayors and prime ministers of the United Kingdom have issued messages to the Hispanic community every year, estimated to be over 1 million people in the British Isles, to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.
