About Jonjalin
[edit]I am a PhD candidate in Media Studies and Politics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Interests
[edit]I examine the politics of the media; political culture, government and media wartime information dissemination practices; political ideology and propaganda; class, race, ethnicity, and gender portrayal in the media; relationship between media and power; alternative and community media; media sociology and news production; media and democracy; media ethics.
I love politics and I love the media. I love to read (even in my spare time) especially history and researching/analyzing cultural, news, and political phenomena. My goal is to discover as much as I can about how we come to think the way we do about race and class.
Interest in Wikipedia
[edit]From my perspective, along with YouTube, Wikipedia is one the greatest collaborative learning inventions in the last 100 years. I always enjoyed reading Wikipedia and, despite uninformed and paranoid judgment by some educators, have found the majority of articles to be well-researched and well-written. It is a modern tool that can be used effectively or abused as any tool can. Like many of those who participate on Wikipedia, I would like to see Wikipedia establish a well-earned reputation for educational leadership, accuracy, and for being forward thinking.
