You're probably asking, "Why did you revert my edit?". There are quite a few reasons why I may have done this.

How to get my explanation

[edit]
  • Check the message that I left at your talk page. It should say something like "Welcome to Wikipedia". Make sure it's signed by me. (My current signature is j (tc).)
  • Select the category below this box.
  • Read my explanation.

Reason #1: You blanked the page.

[edit]

That's when you hit the edit button, hit backspace to remove all of the page's content, and then you save it.

Most people think they delete the page by doing just that. No, they're not. It's just a page with a blank white area where text and images used to be.

How often are these edits reverted?

All the time, except in very special cases.

Reason #2: You didn't give a source for your addition.

[edit]

Like every building's additions must have a foundation, every addition to Wikipedia needs to have a source.

Sources are Wikipedia's foundation! (Not really, Wikimedia is the foundation that runs Wikipedia.)

Edits without sources can remain without sources for a while, but after that, the edit is removed as it is unreferenced.

How often are these edits reverted?

Not normally, unless the addition is dubious. That means nothing on the Angelina Jolie article about her being killed by a shark.

Reason #3: You weren't neutral.

[edit]

Wikipedia has a strict neutrality policy that you can read by clicking here.

How often are these edits reverted?

Some non-neutral edits can be fixed. Some cannot. The ones that cannot be fixed are reverted.

This happens a lot. People will add an external link to a fansite, forum, etc. that is not owned by the owner. This is known as spamming, and that is immediately reverted. Enough said.

Reason #5: You made a test.

[edit]

A lot of n00bz new editors will often make an editing test. And I did that too when I was new. And if I reverted your edit because you were testing, don't worry. Everyone tested at one time! For further testing, please use the sandbox from now on.

How often are these edits reverted?

All the time, but we won't bite.
