Can Emed (born 1981) is a Turkish artist.
Background
[edit]Can Emed was born in Istanbul, Turkey, the son of Gülçin Çolak Emed, also an artist, and the son of Recep Emed. Emed joined in a Tema Foundation juniors exhibition in 1991, in a competition entitled; "Erosion and Dune" and won the 1st Winner Award.
During the reception of Art Istanbul 2002 Expo, The Chairman of Turkish Art Galleries Federation; Doğan Paksoy, rewarded Can Emed, and the other 3 young artists to; "Art Istanbul 2002 Art Award". [1]
In 2003 he graduated from Plastic Arts (Visual arts) department, Yeditepe University.[2]
Art and influences
[edit]Emed's art is infuenced by Symbolism, Surrealism, and Fantastic art. He is especially influenced by Salvador Dalí and H. R. Giger.[3] He often uses biogrotesque style on the science fiction landscapes and figures that he creates in a similar style to the Biomechanical art created by Giger.
He creates his artworks with oil colours and Airbrush (Aerograph) on large canvas surfaces. He often uses horror images, dark phantasms, and grotesque figures to accompany the imaginary subterranean dwellings that he designs. [4]
Emed started to move his Atelier from Nişantaşı, to Büyükada (Istanbul) in 2009. He has won art-awards and also exhibited his art at expositions in Istanbul since 2002-03 season. [5]
He is a member of; UNESCO/AIAP.[6]
