Omagongati Village

Omagongati is a village situated at the northern part of Namibia in Oshana region, Oshana Region is between Omusati and Oshikoto regions. it simply borders the Kingdom of Ondonga from that of Kwambi, and it is under the leadership of the headman Mr. Noah Nakwafila, well known as Kapinya. Omagongati is as far from Ondangwa, and is before Ongwediva when you are going to Oshakati from Ondangwa. Oshakati, roughly 17 km away. It is surrounded by numerous villages, namely Ashaaga, Onelago, Okatha Kiingondjo and uudhengelo with the nearest town Eheke which has a high school such as Eheke Secondary School and more improved infrastructures.

As most other villages country wide, Omagongati also suffered the consequences of flood because it is in a flood prone area.

During colonialisation

During the colonial era this village was also affected, the inhabitants’ houses were destroyed and their cultivating land was left dilapidated, although the village managed to reframe a moment after the war.

Economically

Economically, Omagongati is not that well-off to have large markets of its own, it thus has minimarkets and shebeen where villagers buy their basic needs and as well go for refreshment. This village is a place to be by the time of public holidays for its well known astonishing and enjoyable atmosphere, it also has a bright reputation for its well-known football aspiration.

Development Prospects

After the Namibian independence, vivid improvements could be read from Omagongati. These in a form of the introduction of electricity, land lines (telephones), mobile telecommunication network access and water. Omagongati as a village also have a combined school (Omagongati combined school) which accommodates pupils from pre-primary to grade 10. There is also a Roman Catholic Church in Omagongati which has no religious discrimination.

Despite all that all that have happened and have improved in the area, there still more expectations which includes the construction of a gravel road which is already underway which is going to connect Ongwediva,Eheke ,Ompundja ,Oshakati and Ondangwa. In addition the Omagongati citizens are about to witness the commencing of the building of their clinic (Omagongati clinic).

Leading figures

Individually Omagongati also produced leading figures of the republic of Namibia, namely, the Minister of Education Hon. Abraham Iyambo and the former CEO of FNB the late Lazarus Ipangelwa.
