Evaluate an article
[edit]This is where you will complete your article evaluation. Please use the template below to evaluate your selected article.
- Name of article: Gino Odjick
- Briefly describe why you have chosen this article to evaluate.
Gino Odjick is an athlete I remember from when I first started to follow hockey. I was unaware he was an aboriginal athlete until recently and have chosen him for my video review project.
Lead
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Does the Lead include an introductory sentence that concisely and clearly describes the article's topic?
- Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections?
- Does the Lead include information that is not present in the article?
- Is the Lead concise or is it overly detailed?
Lead evaluation
[edit]The Lead clearly describes the article's topic by explaining who the article is about and what he is know for. The lead is very concise and to the point - describing the major sections of the article and only using information that is included in the article.
Content
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Is the article's content relevant to the topic?
- Is the content up-to-date?
- Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong?
Content evaluation
[edit]Although all of the content is relevant and up to date, there is a great deal of content that seems unnecessary. His mother is referenced by two different names - I am unsure which is correct - and all of the information regarding the blood disorder he suffers from does not seem well placed within this article. The link to the disorder itself could describe its effects and the reference to his doctors input does not seem appropriate.
Tone and Balance
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Is the article neutral?
- Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
- Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
- Does the article attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position or away from another?
Tone and balance evaluation
[edit]The article does appear to be completely neutral - free of any bias or overrepresented/underrepresented topics. I do not believe there are any efforts to persuade the reader's opinion or position.
Sources and References
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Are all facts in the article backed up by a reliable secondary source of information?
- Are the sources thorough - i.e. Do they reflect the available literature on the topic?
- Are the sources current?
- Check a few links. Do they work?
Sources and references evaluation
[edit]All of the sources do seem to be reliable and unbiased; however, this is not entirely known as there are a number of broken links. The vast majority of the information appears to draw from one source which is not available. The sources available to support what information is included in the article, but due to the inclusion of broken links, some of the information may be invalid. Sources should also be added to explain where his career statistics were gathered from.
Organization
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Is the article well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read?
- Does the article have any grammatical or spelling errors?
- Is the article well-organized - i.e. broken down into sections that reflect the major points of the topic?
Organization evaluation
[edit]The article is well organized and written chronologically. Unfortunately, the article is difficult to read due to some of the grammatical errors and long, run-on sentences. A number of small changes could be made to strengthen the effectiveness and quality of the writing.
Images and Media
[edit]- Guiding questions
- Does the article include images that enhance understanding of the topic?
- Are images well-captioned?
- Do all images adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulations?
- Are the images laid out in a visually appealing way?
Images and media evaluation
[edit]No images are included. A photo of Gino Odjick should be included.

- How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
- How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class?
Talk page evaluation
[edit]The talk page includes a critique of the article by another student user as well a notice that external links were modified on the article. The rating of the article is Quality: "Start", Importance: "Low". The article is the part of a number of WikiProjects - Biography/Sport and Games, Canada/Quebec/Sport, Ice Hockey, and Indigenous People of North America.

- What is the article's overall status?
- What are the article's strengths?
- How can the article be improved?
- How would you assess the article's completeness - i.e. Is the article well-developed? Is it underdeveloped or poorly developed?
Overall evaluation
[edit]The article is currently active. As far as strengths are concerned, the article does adequately cover Gino Odjick's career and includes his career statistics. The article could be improved in a number of ways. The quality of writing is quite low and the sources are incomplete/include broken links. it could also include notable moments from Odjick's career or greater insight into his upbringing. I would conclude that this article is both underdeveloped and poorly developed.
