After working for various newspapers in London, which included, The Voice and The Newham Recorder as well as his continuous contributions to Kenya's Daily Nation , Joe Ngugi decided to venture into business where he started several companies offering various services that included commercial and domestic cleaning as well as security and guarding. Together with three other friends, David Mbiyu, Macharia Gakuru and Paul Wakaba, Joe Ngugi went on to start the first ever Kenyan newspaper in the diaspora, The East African Times and later the Kenya London News. In 2007, Joe Ngugi returned to the University of East London where he studied and graduated with a law degree as well as LLM in International Laws and Third World Development.
