John Msimuko is a 55 year old Zambian environmental specialist who served as the inaugural Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment of the Government of Zambia between 2021 and 2023.

He previously headed Zambia's environmental regulation authority, the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) for five years between 2016 and 2021.

John Msimuko has spent the last 30 years playing various roles in the environmental sector in government, the private sector, civil society and quasi - government organisations.

He has provided consultancy services to governments, the United Nations system and other entities in Zambia and the sub region.

John Msimuko was born in Zambia's border town of Chililabombwe on 4th November 1968 to migrant parents from Chama district of Zambia. He attended Kamenza Primary School for his grade 1 to 7 education before proceeding to Chililabombwe Secondary School. He was later to transfer to Chizongwe Secondary Technical School in Chipata.

John completed his secondary shool education in 1987 and proceeded to the University of Zambia between 1988 and 1993 where he studied Agricultural Engineering.

Later, John attended the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein South Africa where he studied for his Masters Degree in Development Studies, specialising in Environmental Management.
