Bacidia thiersiana is a species of tan or greenish brown crustose lichen.[1] It is found in southeastern North America (Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina), in forests growing on the bark of hardwoods and often associated with thalli of Bathelium carolinianum. It should be noted that although this species was found growing by Bathelium carolinianum it was not parasitic of that species.[1]This species is also found growing in humid, warm, swamp like habitats. This species is named in honor of [[Barbara M. Thiers]], an American hepaticologist and director of The New York Botanical Garden herbarium. This species also produces lobaric acid, which reacts magnificently with a brilliant fluorescence under long-wave ultraviolet light.[1]
