History

[edit]

2012: Formation of Vinyl Theatre

[edit]

The band was formed in 2012 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when Keegan Calmes started writing songs with Chris Senner who met during a cross-country race in high school, and then started sending ideas back and forth over Skype. Keegan was in college in Colorado at Adams State University and Chris was in the Milwaukee area. Soon after, they brought Nick, a fellow student at Arrowhead Union High School with Chris, on board and the three of them wrote across the internet until Keegan came back home to Wisconsin. They officially formed Alchemy, the original name for the band, two years ago. When they decided they needed a bassist Chris had a childhood friend who happen to play the bass, and that is when Josh joined the band. [4] Originally the band name was Alchemy, but with further research, they found that there was already a band with that name and it didn't make for very good search engine optimization. They officially decided to drop Alchemy when they got new management, Gold Firebird. [5] The band members chose the name Vinyl Theatre because Vinyl is classic and stands for a close connection, because it is not everyday that you buy a vinyl from a band, unless you truly like them. Then the Theatre is where you share the connection with the band. [6] In March of 2014, the band placed at the top of Billboard's Next Big Sound chart.

2014: Fueled By Ramen Record Deal

[edit]

On August 19th, 2014 Vinyl Theatre announced on their Facebook page that they would be signing on with the very selective record label Fueled By Ramen, the holy grail for Warped Tour-leaning bands with serious commercial ambitions. Following this deal the band released their first debut full length album Electrogram on September 23, 2014, which includes songs such as "Breaking Up My Bones" and "If You Say So." Prior to this full album the band had only released a small album EP called Gold in 2013. Fueled By Ramen found Vinyl Theatre on Soundcloud, where the band first built up their fan base.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

2014:Quiet Is Violent World Tour

[edit]

Vinyl Theatre's first big gig was opening for Twentyone Pilots at Marquette University last year after winning a battle of the bands competition. Once they officially signed on with Fueled By Ramen, they were invited to embark on a national tour with label-mate Twentyone Pilots during fall of 2014.[7] Misterwives also accompanied them on the Quiet Is Violent Tour.[8]
