History

[edit]

The PALM BEACH COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS PIPE AND DRUM CORPS was gradually formed between 2002 and 2007 being formally incorporated in 2008 as a 501c3. The band plays traditional Scottish and Irish tunes at funerals, memorials, graduations, fundraisers, and pretty much anywhere asked although a donation is typically requested. As of mid 2009 the band had about 3 pipers, 3 snare drummers, 2 bass drummers, and a tenor drummer. Most of the members are firefighters with local departments, primarily Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue and recent info about the gigs we do directly for the department can be found at the county fire rescue web site, http://www.pbcfr.org/pipeanddrum.asp. We are a small band but always looking for new members so if you are a firefighter in the Palm Beach County Florida area feel free to contact us. Our web site, http://www.firepipers.com , has info on contacting us to join or to request we play at a function.

Major events the band played at include the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) firefighter memorial in Colorado Springs, the National Fire Academy memorial in Emmitsburg, MD, and the Florida firefighter memorial in Ocala, Florida. A number of the members have trained with the Sandy Jones/North American Academy of Piping and Drumming in North Carolina. Pictures, tunes, member details, and some history can be found at the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue web site, http://www.pbcfr.org/pipeanddrum.asp
